Who: Aquila
When: Saturday, July 4th
Where: Westerveldt and Parrish Law Firm
What: Introducing Aquila, the secret oracle who lives in the basement
Bingo: Waiting
She was used to the basement, so much so that she rarely left (which wasn't really a choice, even if she wanted to paint it that way). It was quite pleasant in spots; many of the apartments down here were well furnished and designed. She made friends with quite a few of the random residents, the others who couldn't live among the humans of this world because of the way they looked. Glamours were ridiculously expensive and while Aquila could certainly afford one to cover her glowing skin with the pay she received from W & P; she preferred the basement and its denizens to the noisy streets of the city above.
Today she wasn't in the mood for company. She couldn't see everything that was bound to happen, some abilities canceled or limited her own. Today she had the sense that someone was going to drop in, regardless of whether or not she wanted to entertain. To her frustration that was all she could sense, not who or why or even when.
Aquila hated waiting, especially when she didn't have any kind of expectation. It could be more than just a random drop in, or someone seeking advice. This could be a more important occasion, maybe one for which she should be prepared. This wouldn't be the first time in her life that Aquila attempted to prepare herself for something without any idea what it was.
She quieted her mind, locking out any stray thoughts that occurred. She was close to mastering her ability at this point in her life; it was easy to keep intrusive thoughts at bay and slow herself so that her mind was solely at this place and time.
She'd been experimenting in the last few years by allowing her mind to wander at will. She wanted to test the true limitations of Oracular vision and could only do so by opening her mind to every possibility. She found that she could focus on more than one time or place, though more than four stressed her concentration. If she allowed the thoughts to string together on their own she found that clear pictures formed, a true timeline and a detailed account of how events played out simply appeared to her.
She focused now on the feeling that someone was coming. Her mind opened slowly on this idea, new thoughts converging inward. The circumstances of her birth appeared before her and a very bright person appeared on the horizon. This was a face she recognized instantly; the person who helped her find a place in this world.
She relaxed and let the thoughts go. It wasn't just anybody that was going to visit. Though it might still be important, she didn't need to prepare for her grandmother's arrival. All she had to do this afternoon was wait.
