Who: Anatoli
When: Saturday evening, July 11th
Where: Some place strange, Burnham City
What: Anatoli is finding it harder and harder to keep other's thoughts out of his head
Bingo: Waking up some place strange
It's dark and quiet. There's a faint scent of popcorn and spilled soda. Anatoli's not sure where he is. He remembers the headache, screaming loud so that he stumbled to his knees in the middle of the alleyway where he was walking. And then darkness, this pervasive, quiet darkness.
A noise startles him, followed by a light flicking on. His head darts up between a row of chairs. It's bright at first and it takes a moment for his eyes to adjust. Finally, he realizes he's in a movie theatre.
How he got there he has no idea. Maybe he stumbled in, or maybe someone dragged him here. He runs his hand over his pockets and finds his wallet intact, money still inside.
"Come on man, you can't sleep in here." There's a pushy cinema usher who's probably had to yell at the local bums catching some shut eye between every flick.
Anatoli doesn't say anything. He just rises from his spot on the floor and shuffles toward an exit in the front. There's no way he's walking through a crowded theatre. The exit leads to an unfamiliar alley, but at least it's quiet out here, growing dark as night begins to fall. He can clear his head and stop all the noise; he can think for a bit and the only voice in there is his own.
He's not sure what's going on lately, but it's gotten out of control. He can't keep the intrusive voices out as easily as he once did. He knows, intuitively, that it's not any fault of his. Something else changed, something in the world at large that's making it harder and harder for Anatoli to keep his head on straight.
He ventures on to the street, making note of the signpost and the usual landmarks. Now that he's properly oriented he realizes how close he was to making it home. His apartment is two streets over, just a bit up the way. He makes his way home and tries to put this peculiar incident out of his mind, just like all of the other thoughts fighting their way in.
