Who: Temperance and Elle
When: Friday morning
Where: Cafe Bleu in Burnham City
What: Elle finally calls Temperance to let her know she's out, they have a bickering breakfast
Bingo: Breakfast
"Temperance, so glad you could show up," Elle said, sounding as fake as ever. "You look… cute," she grinned. "For a while I was getting worried, you see… I thought you were trying to be the pretty sister, but now that I see you in your frumpy clothes I feel much better," she pat her sister's hand as she sat down.
"Good morning Giselle, I'm glad to see you're still yourself," Temperance said was sweetly as she could muster. She wondered why Elle and herself even bothered to pretend they got along by saying everything in a chipper tone.
Elle had already ordered a coffee for her sister and a mimosa for herself before Temperance got there. Temperance sipped on her coffee and Elle took a swig of her mimosa.
"So… did you want to eat something for breakfast or are you just going to smoke twelve cigarettes and fill up on mimosas?" Temperance asked as she sat across from her sister.
Elle laughed as she lit another cigarette. "I'm still pretty full from last night," she smirked in a sick way. "But I suppose a little something wouldn't hurt. Some toast and two eggs?"
Temperance rolled her eyes and called a waiter over. She ordered breakfast for her and her sister. "Where have you been staying?" Temperance asked.
"Where ever I end up," she shrugged. "You really should wear pointy toe shoes, you look stumpy in rounded flats. And those cropped pants? They're doing nothing for you."
"What do you mean where ever you end up?"
"Whatever guy takes me home. P.S. nice bag Indiana Jones, are you going on an expedition after breakfast?"
Temperance rolled her eyes. Elle was deflecting, as always. She hadn't changed and she wondered why the doctors had released her. "That's disgusting Elle, I hope you're using protection."
"Eww Temp… I don't want to have babies or anything… gross. Why do you have that heinous bag anyways?"
"I need a big bag, I'm going back to school soon so I've been studying whenever I get the chance."
"Studying? Gross."
"I want you to come back to my apartment with me," Temperance said seriously. "You can stay there, we have an extra room."
"No," Elle said simply.
"What?"
"I said no. You're not going to control my life the way that mom controlled my life. I'm going to get my own place… eventually."
"And how do you plan on paying for it?"
"I'll find a job."
"And how did you get new clothes?"
Elle grinned. "I had some money before you shoved me into PMHF, I bought my first few outfits with that. The rest were… gifts," she said simply.
"Well at the very least will you tell me where you're living?"
Elle rolled her eyes. "I have an interview today with some guy at Burnham City Apartments."
"That's where I live."
"Fuck."
"I live in 1003."
"At least we would be a few floors apart. Mr. Barrette lives in 205 and is looking for a room mate since his moved out."
"Mr. Barrette?"
"Don't fuck this up for me!"
"Don't fuck up this poor mans life!"
"How could I fuck up his life?"
"Your fucked up life?" she said making a face. "Your disease. It's kind of hard to deal with. One second you're picking apart the person across from you, the next you're picking apart yourself, and you chain smoke, binge drink and eat, and hook up with random dudes all the time!"
"It's none of your damn business and you better not fuck this up! I need a place to stay because quite frankly I'm tired. I don't know how many more guys I can hook up with so that I know I have a roof over my head."
"You're an idiot," Temperance shook her head.
The waiter brought their breakfast over and smiled. "Thanks," Temperance said lightly. She didn't say another word to her sister until provoked.
"You know Temp…" she was biting her lip, itching, itching her forearm. She chewed the inside of her cheek. "I'm trying to start my life over. I've had to take a break for an entire year. I think I deserve a little leniency from you."
"You don't deserve anything. I brought you here to help you, not to punish you."
Elle shoved a piece of toast in her mouth and chewed it viciously. "Well help me now and come to this interview with me and give me a good reference."
"Fine."
