Who: Elle and Temperance
When: Thursday morning, after this
Where: Burnham City
What: Elle meets her sister for breakfast, they tend to do that
Bingo: Low Battery
Temperance was not pleased with being called out of bed so early by her sister especially since she had so little time these days. She begrudgingly dressed herself and left to meet Elle at their favorite breakfast café in the heart of the city. She spotted her sister looking uncharacteristically shaken.
Elle was biting on her lip, she had picked her forearms red. It was not exactly her strong suit, but she needed someone to talk to. It was killing her, killing her like she had never thought it would. "Morning," she said adjusting her sunglasses.
"Are you hung over?" Temperance asked as she sat down.
"A little," she shrugged and sipped on black coffee. She felt horrible, everything felt horrible. She had not stopped drinking yesterday, not until she had passed out. "But that's not what I need to talk to you about."
The waitress came over. "Ladies," she said brightly. "The usual?"
"Yes please," Temperance said. Elle only nodded, she didn't know if she would even be able to stomach eating anything at all. "So what's up?" Temperance asked sipping on her coffee and looking at her sister over the table.
"I… I had… I kind of had… oh fuck it. I had a miscarriage yesterday," she snapped a rubber band hard against her wrist. "I've been having an affair with Gabriel and I'm pretty sure that little miscarriage just ended the whole thing," Elle held up her compact and reapplied her lipstick, trying to cover up the fact that she was crying. "Whatever… I'm over it," she said quickly before Temperance could say anything.
"I didn't even know you were…" Temperance said, her eyes glistening as she saw her sister struggling with this. "Do you need help? Do you need to talk to one of your old counselors?"
"Stop right there," Elle snapped. "You will not tell a fucking soul about this, you will not send me back there because of this. I'm not going to end up like his sad little suicidal wife all locked up in pleasantview."
"Alright, alright, just calm down Giselle," Temperance said holding her hands up. "This is not something you can just walk away from though…"
"A baby… a fucking baby died inside me and it was my fault," Elle felt sick as the tears flowed freely from her eyes. "I killed his baby," she spoke the words so softly Temperance could barely hear her. Elle tried to wipe the tears away but they kept flowing no matter how hard she tried to stop.
"Do you want to go home?"
"No… I should eat… let's fucking eat…"
"Do you want to stay with me for a few days?"
Elle nodded. "Can I sleep in your bed with you like when mom and dad used to fight?" she asked sadly.
"Of course," Temperance held her sisters hand for what seemed like a long time. The waitress discreetly put the food on the table and slipped away barely being noticed. After a quick and forced meal the Williams sisters walked back to Burnham City Apartments and did not stop on the first floor where Elle lived. Temperance decided that skipping class for the rest of the week was pretty reasonable seeing as though her mentally unstable sister had just had her first known miscarriage.
