Her arms crossed over her chest as her hands held her shoulders. Her grip was hard and pulled the skin on her back tight. It would hurt if Mindy's mind was anywhere inside her head. She heard the bathroom door open and close but it didn't register. It wasn't important.

Geri stepped slowly across the tiled floor of the bathroom in the apartment she shared with Mindy. Geri looked down at the floor when her foot fumbled over a black high heel. She noticed it's match close by as well as a black dress and black stockings lying on the floor like a trail of bread crumbs leading to it's owner.

Mindy was sitting in the corner of their walk-in shower huddled up and holding herself. The pressure of the water flowing from the showerhead was low and just dropped to the floor pathetically.

Geri reached the shower and kneeled down to look into Mindy's face. "Hey," she said softly.

Mindy's expression remained blank and unchanged. Geri's voice had brought Mindy back into her body but it felt numb. She couldn't feel her fingers or her toes and the water that splashed onto her legs from bouncing off the floor was like ice. "Hey," she replied, her voice shaking.

Geri could see that she was cold. Her complexion was pale and she was shivering slightly. She reached out to her to try and coax her out but was cut off and pushed away lamely.

"Don't touch me," Mindy whined.

"Fine," Geri said before holding her hands up, "fine." She stood up momentarily to turn the faucet to a warmer temperature. "Compromise," she whispered to herself before kneeling again. "What's going on?" she asked.

The warm water was hitting Mindy and it felt refreshing, it felt nuturing, it felt good, and it felt like everything she didn't want to be feeling. She began to sob as her head fell.

Geri didn't seem to be helping as she watched Mindy fall apart. Her outfit, all black, then seemed odd, as it should, when Geri slowly put the pieces of this broken puzzle together. "Who?" she whispered, "if you don't mind me asking..."

Mindy continued sobbing weakly as she ignored her roommate. She knew Geri hadn't done anything wrong and quite frankly it was out of character for her to care at all. It wasn't the first time Geri was there for Mindy when she was a wreck or in one of her moods and for that Mindy was grateful. Though, grateful as she may be there was no way she could explain what was going on in her head. There were no words to explain properly how she felt because there were no words to explain how it feels to pick out your own coffin when you're not nearly thirty years old.

Instead Mindy half stood from her balled up position and stood there holding herself before Geri. Her roommate reached for her towel and wrapped it around Mindy before walking her to her room. Mindy shuffled across the floor and fell into her bed when she finally answered Geri's question who had already walked her in and walked out. "Me," she said in a hushed tone to herself.
