Narrative - Adelle Wakes Up
LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]tookawrongturn)

Adelle woke, startled and shivering. Her head was still throbbing, threatening to crash into her stomach which was already churning in angry waves.

Something wasn't right here.

She moved slowly, afraid to upset the delicate balance of pain in the wrong direction. It was strangely bright here, brighter than it had been in the tower. She remembered sleeping in agony as her head threatened to burst open from all of the terrible visions pent up there.

This was place was different. For a moment she thought she'd been moved, or perhaps released by her captors, but that wasn't the case, she could sense it. Something was distinctly off about this place, the very air smelled unique to her homelands among the house Arcane.

This was a new world, held together by very thin fabric. It had stretched and bent in some inexplicable way and now she was here, chilled to the very core. Panic was sweeping up from the floor to claim her and she narrowly missed it, breathing deep to calm herself.

She looked around the plain room where she was kept. A bed and nightstand, the bed made of metal which was a novel concept for Adelle. The lighting came from above, some kind of magic called electricity that she hadn't yet discovered. There was a window with a metal grate covering it from the outside, and this was something Adelle was used to. It was dark outside, perhaps late night or early morning. She was disoriented enough that it didn't matter. She stepped gingerly from the bed and moved toward the door that kept her imprisoned. She tried the handle but it wouldn't work, only jiggled and refused to let her out.

She was a captive again, but her keepers were very different in this world.

She called out, quietly at first. Her voice was hoarse and didn't sound right to her own ears. It was as if centuries had passed since the last time she had used it and she couldn't recognize the sound. "Hello?" she called. "Please, can someone help me?"

No one came for a very long time and Adelle didn't want to bother if no one could hear her. She crawled back into the metal framed bed which so amazed her and waited until the sun rose before trying again to garner someone's attention.
