Elle sat in her chair with her elbows leaning on her desk, her head in her hands. She sighed deeply and shook her head. "I still can't believe you made me come here Temperance, I fucking hate this place."
Temperance shifted in her chair, feeling uncomfortable. "You know this was for the best."
"You've been telling me that for months and nothing has felt like it's for the best," her temper flared.
"Calm down Giselle," Temperance said in a firm voice. Being on her own, even for just a few months had changed her dramatically. She was able to think about herself, she was able to do nice things for herself, buy herself clothes like the outfit she had picked out for her day out with Temperance. She could finally worry about what she wanted and needed. Along with that came a more assertive personality. She had run away for a reason, for her sister, and now it was time to think about herself.
"Floryntina do NOT give me that calm down bullshit! I'm so tired of this! I get it here I don't need to get it from you," she looked straight at her sister, her hands were shaking. "You sound like mother."
Temperance shook her head and looked away. "I am not like her," she said lightly. "I'm my own person now and I don't have to worry about everyone else because there is no one else for me to take care of."
"You look like a tramp," Elle calmed herself down enough to put on her icy attitude.
Temperance shook her head again. "Thank you," she said sarcastically. "And you look like a train wreck. Isn't this helping at all?"
"I've been trying to tell you the whole time I've been here, it's not helping and there's no reason for me to be here. What about you? How is this working out for you?" she raised an eyebrow. Temperance looked healthier and happier than before, there was a cheeriness to her cheeks and her voice… it was different.
Temperance shrugged. "I've been alright." She couldn't tell Elle that this was the best thing she had ever done with her life. "It's nice not having mom around isn't it?" she half laughed.
Elle smiled. "Yeah, that's the only benefit of being here," she gestured around her. "This place is killing me Floryn, I need a drink or some coke, anything… it just… it's killing me. The walls are too white… the people… they try to talk things out," she took a deep breath. She couldn't admit that she was here for her sister, she couldn't admit that she wasn't going to leave until everyone felt that she was ready. She couldn't admit that she needed help. So she sat across the table from Temperance. "Whatever," she muttered. "It's not like you would care anyways. What we do is pretty boring anyways."
"I do care Elle," Temperance was hurt that Elle didn't think she cared about what was going on. "That's why I brought you here. I don't want you to get hurt anymore. There's something wrong with you and these people can help."
"There is NOTHING wrong with me!" she screamed, her face was red and her breathing uneven. She couldn't stop shaking.
Temperance sat back in her chair, her eyes wide. She should have been used to these kinds of outbursts by now but it had been a while since she last witnessed it. She had almost forgotten how to handle it. "Your hair looks really nice today," she commented off handedly.
Elle scoffed. "It always looks great bitch," she twirled her prized light chestnut colored hair. During one of her episodes she had insisted that she could pull off dark hair better and that Temperance should dye her hair blonde. To appease Elle, Temperance started to dye her hair blonde without complaint.
"Yes, it does," Temperance nodded in agreement. "It's very shiny."
"So is your face. Have you been using that face wash I gave you?"
"No," she said simply.
"Jesus. Do I have to take care of everything? I leave for a little while and everything goes to hell. Especially your face," she sounded half snobby and half concerned for the dermatological care of her sister.
"I know. Everything is going to hell. Worst of all I'm eating peanut butter out of the jar," she said easily. Picking out her own flaws was easy enough and it always seemed to calm Elle down just enough.
"Peanut butter out of the jar? What the fuck Temperance," she shook her head. "I can't wait until I get out of this bitch. I'm going to have to take care of your ass," she smirked. "Not to mention, the outfits at this place are great," she added sarcastically.
"I can't wait." She was half sincere, half worried.
