Jon sat alone on the couch in his dark living room listing to the drops ping against the glass panes. Outside the rain was falling against the windows. It's was stronger than a simple drizzle but not quite a down pour. He felt just as miserable as the weather outside. His body ached and his neck was tense.
His laptop was situated at his side, folded shut and left ignored.
Jon wasn't quite sure where Harper had disappeared too and wasn't aware of the location of either of their two dogs. He'd been alone for a couple of hours, he thought. Harper must have gone out but he was gone to long to have the dogs with him. Though maybe he wasn't really gone that long. Jon hadn't a sense of time the past couple of days. He'd been unlike his usual self, so unlike it that he was starting to scare himself. Perhaps the dogs were in the office he thought but not bothering to get up to check. All that mattered to him at that point was that he wasn't being bothered.
He was content in the dark, taking deep breaths, working to calm himself down. He was shaking, body wracked with sobs. Moments earlier had seen him fighting an invisible monster; a war of sorts taking place by the bathroom sink.
Jon had done something he knew was wrong. But they made him do it.
