Who: Ed McMillan, Sammie Wendell and OPEN.
What: First day ata new school.
Where: Ed's locker.
When: Thrusday Sept 1; around 11:40am
Rating: PG-13, probably.
Status: Open to anyone.

Ed was generally the kind of guy who made friends easily, but that didn't really make him feel any better about starting a new school today. At least it was the first day for everyone, but it was different for him. Everything felt different for him now.

It had been over a month - closer to two - but Ed was very much still dealing with the loss of his parents. Not that he thought he would ever be over it, but school was kind of the last place he wanted to be at the moment. He put on a good show, smiling and acting like any other kid on the outside, but on the inside he was still a fair mess.

Ed sighed inwardly as he stowed his books in his locker and looked around. No sign of Ashleigh. He couldn't remember if they'd agreed to meet at his locker or at hers or maybe in the lunch room, so he pulled out his phone to text her.

where r u?

At least it was lunchtime. This - all of it - was easier when he could be with Ash. He felt better when he was around her. At least with her, he didn't have to fake it so much.

Sammie was happy to be back at school. She enjoyed learning, she did. But she also really liked the seeing her friends everyday…all day long. She dumped her books off in her locker. Her head turned in the direction she heard her name being called. With a wave, she started backwards. Just a step, maybe too. She was already turning to face the right direction when she bumped into something- no someone solid.

It was the owner of the locker a few down from hers. It wasn't hard enough to hurt either of them but she still felt bad. She was not paying attention at all. She had a habit of doing that.

"Oh god. I'm sorry. So sorry I'm not normally- no, wait. That's a lie Total lie. I am always…if not more of a klutz than I seem to be," Sammie rambled an apology. But it was true. She was kind of all over and tended not to always pay full attention to what she was doing.

Ed hadn't exactly been paying close attention to his surroundings, himself. Luckily, his reflexes were good and he managed to not drop his phone or lose his balance, but if he'd been paying attention, he might have moved out the way.

He waved off her apologies almost immediately, Ed couldn't help grinning at the way she babbled at him. It was a genuine grin, not like the fake smiles he'd been giving all day. Then again, who wouldn't enjoy being bumped into by a pretty girl.

"It's okay, really," he assured her. "I'm Ed, by the way," he added. Being new meant he didn't really know anyone, yet, except for Ash and the guys on the team.

The first day of school excitement was definitely to blame for her lack of brain today. Seeing friends that had been gone all summer. She was busy being a social butterfly but she could agree that it wasn't so bad bumping into a cute boy. Especially one that wasn't fazed by her running into him.

"It's nice to meet you, Ed," she said, giving Ed a bright smile. "First day? Or have I just not run you over before?" Sam asked. He didn't look familiar but that didn't mean he didn't go here. She didn't know everyone but she also didn't recall seeing him before.

"OH! I'm Samantha," she told him, finally remembering to introduce herself. "But I'll answer to any variation of my name," Sammie added. It was true. She answered to just about everything. "People call me Sam, Sammage, Sammie, Samster, Sam I Am. And really I could go on," Sam said, listing off her nicknames. Everyone liked to call her their own variation apparently.

"First day. I just moved over the summer," he drawled, his southern accent still very much prominent in his speech.

Ed couldn't help but grin at her babbling about her name. It was kind of cute, the whole babbling thing and a pretty girl did tend to provide a nice distraction from things.

"It's nice to meet you, Samantha," he said, flashing her a dimpled grin.
