Effie Barclay stepped into the doorway of Sickbay as the doors parted for her, noted the lack of stellar cartography-related sensors and screens, and eventually realized she must have passed up her intended destination while she was thinking about stibnite deposits in asteroids.

She forgets to say any of this out loud.

"Hello," Vaal smiled. "Can I help you? Here for your physical or are you sick? Or maybe you dropped in to say hi?"

Effie paused just a moment before saying "Hi!" Pause again. "Do I need a physical?"

The door hisses open behind Effie, and a green-skinned woman enters. She sighs and straightens herself up, trying hard to at least act professional even if she feels like she just walked into her grave. The door closes again behind her. She waits for the doctor and Effie to finish talking, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible until then.

"Has it been over a year since your last one." Vaal noticed the newcomer and without skipping a beat spoke to her. "Hello! You must be Nasira! I can't tell how happy I am to meet you."

Nasira raises an eyebrow very slightly, and then steps forward.

"Yes, Ma'am. Very pleased to meet you." Nasira clasps her hands in front of her and goes back to waiting for the previous conversation to finish before butting in.

Effie frowns in thought and pauses as she silenty counts. "No," she says finally. "Eight months. I guess I don't need to, then. Hi. I'm Effie Barclay. Euphemia to my angry relatives." It's her very, very best joke. "I don't want to interrupt anything, though.

"My name is Vaal Seraxx. And please! Neither of you are interrupting at all. I've been very bored."

Effie pauses in thought yet again. How did Bolian names work? "Does that make you Dr. Vaal or Dr. Seraxx?"

"Dr. Seraxx but please call me Vaal."

Despite her terrible mood, Nasira found herself smiling. At least this doctor seemed to have a goodly spirit. Nasira took her cue to stop standing in the corner and started setting up what would be her work area.

"Okay, Vaal," Effie says pleasantly after another pause. "Nice meeting you."

"Science officer," She smiles. "Stellar cartography and xenogeology, mostly."
