Emmeline took a step back when the door open, and smirked greatly in amusement at his comment, "No, it's a hat covered in frosting."
She did refrain, however, from rolling her eyes. Emmeline had promised herself that she was going to be good, and just be nice for his birthday, because that's what a girlfriend was supposed to do. There were so many things she could retort, or snip about, or just as quickly be annoyed with, that the effort should be greatly appreciated if she managed to keep it up. So--she just smiled, and pushed forward into the house to put everything down.
"I figured," she began, just talking as she walked, even though it was slow and nearly awkward with the careful way she had positioned the cake on top of the wrapped gift, "I didn't want to lose out on any excitement, my week is apparently attempting to be epic."
Emmeline stopped at a table and put the items on top, carefully taking the edges of the cake plate and placed it down. She examined the edges to make sure nothing was smeared or messed up, and then she picked up the gift and held it behind her back as she turned to face Caradoc.
"And maybe I wanted to get an early start on the celebrations."
