"I like it," Caradoc supplemented quickly, moving to hover over her slightly. Ah, see, this was why he didn't like giving gifts to people. And why he had no problem (most of the time), with no one giving him anything because it created situations like this. Why hadn't she listened to him when he had curtly stated all he wanted for his birthday was sex. And a cake. Sex and a cake, that was all he wanted but, no, Emmeline had gone and made it... special. Caradoc stopped himself from going into another mini-frenzy, knowing that it would only be counter productive. This-- just--- had to get over it, that was all. Yes. He could do that. He could accept Emmeline's deep affections for him. After all, that was what he had been trying to achieve so....
Nope. The thought still made him want to go on one of his instinctive destructive paths.
Caradoc choose to simply focus on one issue at a time, trying to mentally block out--- refrain, refrain--- her last statement out of his short term memory completely. "Really," he stumbled, blinking quickly for a split second. "Don't---" he hated having to fumble for words-- "I just--- it's very--- thoughtful."
Complete failure of words.
