Meredith had been so concentrated on the dancing couples before her that she hadn't been paying much attention to what was going on around her. It caused her a slight shock, then, to notice that someone had suddenly decided to take the seat next to her.
Suddenly feeling rather awkward--who just sat down like that next to you and didn't say anything?--, Meredith tried to get as good a look at the figure out of the corner of her eye. In the dimly lit room and terrible perspective, she couldn't tell much, but she could tell one thing--he was ridiculously good looking. She could tell even through the mask and dark clothing that he was handsome, and there was something about the way that he held himself that was very attractive as well.
Something about him seemed familiar, though, and Meredith bit her lip as she tried to place where she knew him from---was he the Ravenclaw that sat a couple rows up in Transfiguration? Nah, that kid was smaller. And he couldn't be one of the Gryffindor boys, because none of them were that good-looking.
Oh for cripes sake, this whole mask thing was really bothersome. Well, maybe if she could get him to talk she'd recognize the voice.
"So, uh--" What did you say to start up conversation with someone you didn't-but-kind-of-did know? "Nice party, isn't it?" Ugh, smooth.
