He tried not to blanch at the term "boyfriend." After all, he knew she was coming with a date. She certainly knew by now he had a girlfriend, who also happened to be his date. But it still made him slightly angry. Not to mention his pride had been completely wounded by her, and he couldn't wrap his mind around that four-letter word. Hate. No one had said it to him before. And he was wanted to make sure no one said it to him and meant it.
"Date is a subjective term," he said, decidedly. "And since it appears that neither you nor I have a partner at this moment in time--perhaps it would be prudent of me to ask you for this dance?" He extended his hand, regarding her slyly from the side.
