Joey was excited and nervous and--no, this was going to be okay. She was going to like her gift and she was going to have a good night and. Ad he was going to figure out something brilliant to say to her! He was a Ravenclaw, he was smart enough for this and he didn't want to let his nerves get in the way of that.

So when he caught her sitting on her own, he jumped at the chance. He sat down next to her with a grin. "Happy belated birthday," he said with a grin. Ohhhh, he didn't know if he could do this conversation thing, even though he'd talked to Phoebe about it and he had started feeling comfortable with it but--now he was sitting there with her and and--breathe. Okay, it would be good.

Okay, admittedly Rosie had been to a few parties before, but never really had any fun; they just weren't her thing, but this party? She was actually enjoying it and herself! Naturally, many people showed up for the mere fact that it was a party, but to know some of them actually said happy birthday and all that made her tingle, made her happy. It was going to be a great evening, no doubt.

She had walked around for most of the party, talking and trying to be a little more social then normal. Yeah, it was weird but she liked it. She laughed a lot, drank non-spiked punch (she thanked whoever left something unspiked) but after an hour or so, her feet started to hurt, so she broke away from the crowd and went to take a seat by herself but not totally out of the way. Kicking her shoes off, she relaxed for a moment until Joey showed up beside her. Now she couldn't stop grinning. "Oh, thank you. This has to be the best belated birthday ever." Usually birthdays weren't a big thing with her, but maybe that could all change.

He smiled. "I'm glad you're having fun!" He carefully slipped the box out of his pocket. "I--well, I got you something. Since, you know, it's your birthday party and everything." He handed her the box before biting his lower lip. If she didn't like it--would she say something? Or would she just feign happiness and make him feel better about the pick or--he let out a slow, soft sigh to calm himself down. He'd had help selecting the jewelry, he didn't need to worry about this. It was the thought that counted.

So, continuing that mantra in his head, he watched her carefully biting his lower lip.

Most of the gifts she had already gotten, she was keeping until later to open when she was alone in her dorm, unless she was forced to open them for all to see then that wouldn't be problem, but either way! She was a bit shocked to see he got her something. Blushing a bit, she took the gift from him and laughed softly. "I know the flyer said to bring something, but you didn't have to. Really." But she was grateful anyway.

Deciding to open his at that moment, she took off whatever paper covered the box then opened it. It took her by surprise that he had picked... that. Well, that was nice. It really was. Grinning now, after a moment of silence and no expression, she turned to him and looked excited, happy. "I love it. It's beautiful. Thank you." There was no feigning there.

He laughed, relieved. "I'm glad you like it, I wasn't sure what to get you but--yes. You like it, so...yes." He would have to thank Phoebe later for helping him out. Which...she didn't need to know about.

"So, er...are you having fun?"

She laughed as well, feeling more nervous and doing it out of habit more than anything. "I do like it. It's a perfect gift." As if she hadn't already said that, but she was nervous after all! No one had given her a gift like that before so naturally she would be all flustered and happy, obviously in the good way.

"I am, actually, which is surprising seeing as I've never really been to a party before, let alone have one in my name!" She laughed again, mentally butt kicking herself for being so silly.

To be honest, Oscar hadn't been planning on going to this party--thing. What was the point in being around a bunch of people he really...didn't want to be with? But then his room was bombarded and he was drug down there and--sigh. So there sat Oscar Egg, by the fireplace, sprawled out on one of the leather arm chairs with a potions book thrown open on his lap.

The music and the laughter and just general hum of everything was annoying, but he was very good at ignoring things. Thank god. If someone really wanted to talk to him, they could come over and bother him.

This was really the worst decade ever.

Okay, maybe she was only seven or whatever when it started, but still. You really didn't remember most of what happened before you were seven. And--okay, so maybe the decade wasn't a complete mess, she could probably cut that whole 'worst ___' ever thing down to 'worst first semester of a school year' ever. She was nearly failing basically everything, all of her muggleborn friends were being shipped off to what was most likely a hellhole, and--and there was still that unresolved hatred she had for Gavin Daniels, which even Kobe could not deny anymore was really not hatred at all.

And she really hated him for that.

So--she was going to have a drink, tonight. Definitely not the first time (her brother was a Hobgoblin even if he was all straight edge or whatever---and she was a Catchlove), so it wasn't like she was going to get pissed off her first cup. But---third, or fourth, wellll.

It really wasn't her fault that some bloke decided to stretch his legs out into the middle of where people were walking. Kobe ungracefully tripped over the Slytherin's foot, her drink flying into the fireplace. She stumbled and found her balance, frowning greatly that her drink had quickly evaporated into the flames. At least she didn't get it on the carpet?

She turned quickly (er--and wobbly) toward the Slytherin. Oh. Egg. "How kind of you to give people room to move around."

Oh, she was going to--this was their bloody common room! It wasn't as if everyone in the entire bloody house had begged Shimpling to throw the damn party. "Excuse me for being comfortable in my own common room, Catchlove," he drawled back in annoyance. Ugh, really. He'd be glad when they all just--left.

"If you weren't halfway to being sloshed I'm sure you would have noticed that someone was sitting here." Then again...she was a Hufflepuff. And they didn't have the best reputation in his mind. Maybe Kobe was different, but...sigh.

"Besides, there's plenty of common room to move around in, and it is your own fault for choosing to walk so close to myself and the fireplace when there are any other number of places you could be traipsing about."

Kobe crossed her arms tightly, glaring down at Oscar. Okay, one she wasn't halfway to being sloshed. That would be like---four drinks. Seriously! Maybe. She didn't feel sloshed, and she'd been paying attention to the group of people across the room, totally the reason why she hadn't seen his feet.

Pretty sure that was the case, anyway.

"Oh, I'm sorry--I didn't realize that this certain personal sphere," Kobe gestured greatly around Oscar's feet and chair, "was off-limits to the world outside of Oscar Egg. Though--it is a terribly rude, obnoxious world, so I guess I should have thought to stay away."

See---Kirby had always said she should've been a Slytherin. Never could really understood why she was a Hufflepuff, to be honest.

Oscar rolled his eyes. "Yes, you should have. But you didn't." This was ridiculous. Why was he even arguing with her? She certainly wasn't worth the time spent on it. "It could be worse, though. You could be that incessant...Fielding...girl thing." Oh, thank Merlin it hadn't been. Because she was pretty enough to look at, but wasn't the type of bird that Oscar liked dealing with.

Maybe he didn't have to be a party pooper the entire time. Spiked punch honestly wasn't sounding horrible...

It was in Kobe's nature to immediately defend her friends, hell, that was the only bit about her that she could say was the reason behind her being a Hufflepuff. Insanely loyal to those she was close to, and--and you know, even then, that could just be because she was a Catchlove. Anyhow, a flare of anger shot up at his insult of Meredith, and Kobe twitched to retort with some long, winding speech about how her friend was better than anyone in the bloody Slytherin house, but--

--but her friend, currently, was seeing Gavin Daniels (or whatever they were calling it, these days), and Kobe could not find it in herself to defend here. Which was horrible, but Kobe knew it was horrible and wrong of her, so did that technically make it not as bad, since she felt guilty? Yes? No? Maybe?

Kobe simply sniffed and dropped down into the closest chair, crossing her legs and arms in a stuffy manner. Maybe just not saying anything at all would be the best way to handle this.
