Moses Dodderidge: bad ass (and prophet) ([info]mosesknows) wrote in [info]valesco,

Who: Moses and Rabastan
Where: Gringotts; Moses' "office"
When: Monday, mid-afternoon

Moses had been having a difficult week; between traveling to Egypt and Romania to tie up some loose strings on his end (for paperworks sake, of course) and trying to keep up with his parents and siblings. Not only that, but he hadn't seen Harmony in a few days and it was frustrating him more than he thought to be possible.

With a rather loud sigh, he threw his quill down before trying to nurse his splitting headache away. There was a knock at his door. Assuming that it was Brand or someone else he didn't care to talk to, he ignored it while he looked over at his calendar quickly; oi, Valentine's Day. He'd need to do something special for Harmony tonight...maybe dinner. At the second knock, he rolled his eyes before shouting out that the door was open as he went back to furiously scribbling out a summary of his past month's work. Moses Dodderidge was not in the mood to play.

Rabastan rolled his eyes greatly and cracked some bones in his neck before pushing the door of Moses' office open. He forced the friendliest smile he could summon, standing in the doorway before addressing the man.

"Do you always treat your guests so poorly?" he drawled, eyebrows high. Rabastan could honestly say he had not seen Moses since school, which wasn't a shame. They had spent time together, Rabastan having drifted toward the Slytherins in his year rather than his Ravenclaw roommates. Of course, Grayson Wilkes had interested him more than Dodderidge, but now was not time for fond memories of their childhood.

Rabastan's eyes took a slow look around the office, "This is not nearly as exciting as the description makes it out to be."

Moses rolled his eyes. Great, Lestrange. "Only when I'm on a busy schedule," Moses replied as courteously as he could, still working on his papers. He wondered what Rabastan was there for; his appearance couldn't bode anything good. Back at school...well, let's just say that he and Moses got along about as good as cats and dogs.

"It's much more exciting when I'm trying to save my arse from manticores in Egypt," Moses added curtly, finally looking up at the man standing in front of him. "Can I help you with something?"

"Mm."

Rabastan entered and shut the door behind him, his wand tucked into the sleeve of his winter cloak. He hated the cold, and was more than peeved to be called out this day for some asinine curse breaker. Ooh, Egypt. He knew he was supposed to sound friendly, but really. Really. Rabastan didn't dabble in public relations. He understood why this made sense, that using one of their own insiders would be too risky. But, him? What about that dolt, Dearborn?

"Are you happy with your job, Moses?" Rabastan asked quietly, arms crossing gently. The door locked with a click behind them.

Oh boy, shut door. He let out a sigh as he finished working through his last page before turning his full attention to Rabastan. "Very happy, actually. Why, are you on the market for a new position?" He smirked, "Can't say that I can pull any strings for you, but I'm flattered that you would seek me out."

He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms as he stared at the man standing before him. The sound of the door clicking shut behind him didn't bode well with Moses.

"And what of your position?"

Rabastan didn't care to look Moses in the eye anymore, and traveled across the room to take a look at photographs on the wall. He nearly gagged at how happy he and his family looked, but put a hand out to fix a slightly crooked frame nonetheless. The bookshop, the inn, and Hogwarts, if he remembered clearly, which he always did.

He hadn't put much thought into whether or not Moses would be hard to convince, because either way Rabastan would come out on top. Whether he had to be persuaded was the question, but that was for another time.

"Do you like where you are, right now?" he asked, turning to Moses with a somewhat thoughtful expression.

"I'm content," Moses replied, now watching Rabastan even closer while he looked about his office. "Look, whatever you're here for, just come out with it already," he said curtly, raising an eyebrow. Suddenly, Moses didn't feel so good about him being there; he wondered what things would come down to in the end as he sat, waiting in the thick silence.

Moses had never been pleased with being so far down in the ranks, Slytherin ambition and all, but he didn't really see a need to do anything past working hard to make it to the top.

Rabastan kept his eyes on Moses for a second before a smile crossed his lips. Ha, all right then. He took a few steps toward the desk, standing centimeters in front of it with the same amused smirk plastered onto his face. Did this fool think he was here for his own personal gain? Or did he think this was a game Rabastan had simply decided to play this afternoon?

"What would you do to reach those higher pillars, Moses?" he started quietly, eyes drifting down to the paperwork and what had to be nonsense busy work. "What would you do to make your life even better...what would you do to keep your family safe from the terrible accidents of war?"

The smirk had disappeared and Rabastan's light blue eyes were cold, but unwavering. There were three people in the world who could intimidate him, and Moses Dodderidge was nowhere on the same plane.

Moses' eyes darkened as Rabastan mentioned his family. Maddox, Jamie...Miranda, oh Merlin if something were to happen to any of them...right, nothing was going to happen.

"I don't need to do anything to make my life better than it is already, Lestrange. Idle threats aren't going to get you anywhere," he said, hoping to call the man on a bluff. Somehow he didn't think that was possible, but there was always a chance...he hoped.

"I swear to Merlin if you do a god damn thing to anyone remotely important to me..."
