Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Mary and Sirius
What: Just chillaxin'...being a fake couple...or whatever.
Where: Sirus's place
When: Sunday evening

Mary felt fat. Not like, 'Oh my god I've eaten a ton' fat, but 'Oh my god I'm six months pregnant' fat. She was having trouble standing up or sitting up at times, she felt like everyone was staring at her when she went shopping or when she was at work...and it was fine, she didn't entirely notice. But every once in a while she felt completely self conscious about her tummy and the wriggling baby boy inside of it.

She wasn't too sure how she got to Sirius's pub (her mind had been so distracted lately), just that she needed to spend time with a friendly face and the first person that popped into her head was Sirius Black. It was probably entirely improper for a pregnant bird to be sitting at a bar, but what did she care. She had no glass in front of her, and the most she planned on ordering was a fizzy or perhaps a butterbeer (if Sirius had any about, that was). She was content to sit there and wait for him, though. And that was exactly what she did.

Sirius didn't spend an awful lot of time actually working at the pub, but sometimes, when he and Peter finally figured out there was work to do beyond serving pints and refilling the bowls with not-stale peanuts, Sirius did it with only slight grumbling and a few pranks. Right now he was hauling beer kegs and cases of bottles up from the basement to restock their supply that had been decimated after St. Patrick's day. He levitated things up the stairs, but given it was a muggle pub and he wasn't all that great at acting so Sirius actually had to carry them through the door and across the floor to the bar by himself without much of a lightning charm.

He hauled the last box of imports onto the end of the bar, shaking his hair to get some of the dust off his head. Sirius grinned rakishly at Mary and sauntered over to where she was sitting at the bar. He pulled the rag out of his back pocket and wiped the area in front of her, playing up his position as barkeep, "Now what is a pretty lady like yourself doing in a pub such as this? You know, it's kind of dangerous these days, never know what's waiting around the corner to surprise you." Ever the incorrigible flirt, Sirius picked up a pint glass and winked at Mary, setting it in front of her. "What can I do you for? On the house, of course."

"Perhaps I'd better not be seen around you, then. I've heard you're devilishly dangerous yourself." Mary grinned, gently taking the pint glass in her hands. "I'm not quite sure if you've got what I'm looking for, Mr. Black," she mused, shifting a bit on her stool. It had been a while since she had the chance to flirt with someone, so Sirius's teasing demeanor was more than welcome.

"I suppose I'll just take a fizzy. I'm not sure I can really drink anything else on your menu." That was one thing she would be ready for once the baby was on formula and eating solid food and the like. St. Patrick's Day had been downright bleak for Mary, what with all her friends out drinking and having a laugh while she ended up at home in her flat, watching telly and snacking on a few things here and there. "So," she added as she watched him expertly work on wiping down the bar, "What has my good mate Sirius been up to as of late?"

"Lady, I'm what every woman is looking for. I'm rich, I'm handsome with a devil-may-care attitude, I own my own business and flat, and also, I have a motorcyle," Sirius drawled, ticking off the list on his fingers before leaning over the bar and smirking at her, "Plus, you've never even seen my most admirable assets."

Sirius laughed lightly, reaching into the icebox and pulling out a bottle for her and cracking the lid against the counter. It flipped up and he caught it out of the air without looking as he poured her drink. "A cherry for the lass...or lad?" Sirius said, adding a cherry to the top of her drink and motioning to her abdomen. He grinned and popped an olive into his mouth. "Me? I have just been working. And doing stuff with James and Lily, but being a third wheel on their mega-life-date is kind of boring for them, so I try and give them a break every once in awhile. What about you? Other than incubating, and I was serious about every girl in my year being preggo, yours too. Like, it's seriously in the water." Sirius wasn't even going to think about his little incubation project.

Mary rolled her eyes, a smile on her face to accompany the blush that was starting to form. "That reckless attitude of yours is going to get you killed one of these days, Sirius Black. Especially if you've got it in tow when you're on a bloody motorcycle!" She was deciding to voluntarily ignore that last comment. He was probably referring to nothing more than his biceps or--something like that, but she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of knowing that her mind had gone to a rather dirty place. "What I meant by 'you don't have what I'm looking for,'" she added in a low voice, "Was a bloody butterbeer." She winked playfully before pulling the drink to her lips to take a sip. She caught the cherry between her lips and sucked it into her mouth the rest of the way, giving a gentle tug at the stem, removing it neatly.

"I've just been...doing my thing. Working, eating. Trying not to think about--" she cut herself off before mentioning a word about Gabriel, "How unprepared I actually am to be a mother." Mary was tempted to suggest that Sirius find himself his own wheel to attach to at the mention of Lily and James, but held herself back. Perhaps it would be too forward of her to do so; and that might just end up turning it around to her suggesting that she be that wheel and--this was Sirius...He was charming and a great friend and, well he was quite attractive but Mary didn't see him as the settle down type. And with a baby on the way...she was in the market for that type of bloke (even if she denied it profusely). "It's not in the water," she said with a laugh, swallowing the cherry. "It's just...hormones. And not knowing what's going to happen in the next year or six months or even one month. So everyone's shagging like rabbits and...well, cause and effect."

"I will have you know that I have never been in an accident and James gave me a very spectacular crash helmet for a gift the year I got it. I built it myself you know? Ben helped a little, he got me started on figuring out what parts where what, but I did it myself. It's a perfect machine and I would never do anything to even ding her, let alone crash her," Sirius said rolling his eyes. It wasn't like he didn't get that all the time from just about everyone. "And if you had asked, I would have got you one. Did you not know that this pub used to belong to Fiona Finnigan and her family? Yeah, so it's not like we don't get our fair share of friendlies around, ya dig?"

Sirius pulled the bowl of peanuts over to Mary and motioned for her to eat some if she wanted. "I think you'll find yourself more prepared than you think. Women, they're just, naturals at this stuff you know? Babies aren't easy, yeah, but they forgive a lot of stuff. You'll figure it out, even if the other half of that one isn't around. A lot of good people were brought up by one parent, or none at all. Parents are good things though, I believe in good parenting and I know you could be nothing like mine, so, that gives this kid a headstart. And if you ever need anyone to knock some sense or to go to, I'll be around. It doesn't look like I'll be anyone's someone anytime soon, so yeah. I specialize in finding lost things. Shoes, cats, invisible pet monkeys."

Mary laughed. "Perhaps I'll have to take a look at this perfect machine of yours," she mused, taking another gulp of her drink. The butterbeer was sounding more and more good the more they talked about it and the more she thought about it. "And maybe I'll take one later," she added, still thinking on it.

She let out a slow sigh at the thought of actually being a mother, having a baby on her hands. "I hope he'll end up around. Even if it's some type of joint custody set up. I don't want my son growing up without--a father. Not when he's fully capable of being around and involved, you know?" She grinned as he spoke about finding lost invisible pet monkeys. Could he find lost causes and lost hearts and souls? "Ah, but have you figured out where all those socks go once you finish the wash yet?" she asked curiously, remembering her mother's frustration growing up at the loss of one or two socks--always the colorful, patterned ones--that left her mum with half of the set, unfit for wearing anymore. "You could make a lot of money from muggles if you have."

She took a few peanuts and popped them into her mouth, chewing them while she thought. "God, it's been a long time hasn't it, Sirius?" It was hard to think that just 3 years ago this time they'd been in their last few years of school, getting ready to get out into the world.
