the wondrous wendy a. midgen ([info]darlingwendy) wrote in [info]valesco,
Was it selfish that Wendy opted to do a baby book for Psyke, half with the intent of asking Chandler to help her with it?

It was. But Wendy couldn't help it. Psyke deserved something this nice, anyway, and Wendy, being the best friend, of course had to be the one to do it! Getting Chandler's help was just a perk. A very large perk, but that was irrelevant.

At least, that was the mind-frame Wendy was aiming for as the object of her affections was helping her pick out shiny, sparkly things for her project. "Aiming" being the operative word. "Failing" being the accurate state of her being.

"You can never have too much glitter," she told him matter-of-factly, dropping on her knees to pretend to examine a shelf lined with stickies that made noises when you did things like tickle them so a) she wouldn't be tempted to grab his hand while they were standing so close to one another and b) so she didn't have to continue her bright, slightly fake smile by hiding her head. It wasn't that she wasn't happy to be with Chandler, because she was thrilled. It was just that it got more and more difficult to send subtle signal after not-so-subtle signal and have the man not acknowledge a thing. It took a lot to sap Wendy's chipper mood away, and Chandler Midgen was much, much more than "a lot." Wendy had steeled her nerves to make this the day she told him, this the day that she got those horribly stomach-churning, spirit-lifting, fidgety feeling of her consciousness. She opened her mouth to say "There's something I haven't told you before--" but all that came out instead was "Look, this one giggles."

A crafts store didn't seem a good place to reveal such feelings. Yes, that was it.
