the wondrous wendy a. midgen ([info]darlingwendy) wrote in [info]valesco,
Her stomach had knotted itself up ten times over whilst she was waiting for him to respond to what she had just asked. Any kind of response would have been fine, she told herself, just so long as he stopped gawking at her as if she had three heads! Because that certainly didn't do a lot for self-esteem purposes. Wendy knew she shouldn't have psyched herself up so badly this morning, she knew that could only end badly, but she did it anyway! And how much longer could these painful few seconds drag on, before--

The horrified look in her eyes was slowly replaced by one of stunned shock, her mouth still a giant "O." Of all the answers Wendy was expecting, the most positive one was "That's really sweet, Wendy! Maybe once we get to know each other a little better, we can talk about it." Which meant it was definitely not him confessing to having been in love with her since fifth year. Her mind couldn't even calculate how long that was, in its momentary stunned shut-down.

"You mean you don't think of me only as your annoying, jockish, not altogether terribly bright friend?" Wendy blurted out (this seeming to be the most effective way for them to have a conversation that went anywhere), severely pushing her luck by clarifying what he just said with such specific phrasing.
