Avis!
Lunch time was his favorite part of the day. Not only because he got to stop working and instead got to eat, but because...

Well, okay, maybe it was that.

BUT he liked going down to the lab to see Avis, so that was another reason lunch was his favorite part of the day. It was simple things that like that Tomas felt like he needed to hold onto, as the rest of the world was far too dark and gloomy to focus on. He spent his whole day on crime scenes and fighting dark wizards, let him have his hour of talking bullshit with his friends, or trying to convince his wife of a quick shag in the janitor's closet.

Roderick reaaaally hated him, it was fantastic.

"OHH Avis," Tomas announced himself into the lab, bursting the door open. He'd gotten scolded for this before, but he was in a very good mood and could deal with the lecture. He waved the bag of Chinese food tauntingly. "I have very bad for you foooooood!"

Oh, he was SO lucky that she wasn't doing something important when he burst into the lab. She could have been preforming a delicate magical spell that could have blown off her hand if she'd jumped like that poor girl in Experimental Charms!

"I can't eat that," she said matter-of-factly, arching her brow at him. That wasn't her usual response to the food - she'd pick at it after she grumbled about it a little. She didn't look angry, though -- the sly smirk on her face made that much apparent.

She'd been wondering about the best way to tell Tomas that they WERE in fact pregnant, and this seemed as good a way as any.

"All the MSG, you know. I don't want to get Chinese Restaurant Syndrome."

"Chinese whazza---?"

Tomas' grin fell and his patented, overly dramatic pout formed upon his face. Well, that was a few sickles down the drain. Except he'd definitely be able to eat all of it by himself, or at least get Doge or Dawlish to stuff some down their throats...or have fun making Madley devour it all...maybe this wasn't such a bad thing after all.

The pout remained, however, and Tomas slid onto one of the stools at a table. He stared at the vials of potions and bubbling cauldrons full of...whatever it was they brewed down here. He often joked about this place being like a mad scientist's lair, but that just got him blank looks and then ejected from the lab.

"If I eat all of this myself, I'm going to get fat, and then I'll be self-conscious about my weight, and you do not want to deal with that."

Tomas stared pointedly at his wife, eyebrows high.

"Tomas, if anyone is going to be worried about getting fat I suppose it should be me, although it would simply be a normal weight-gain caused by growing a zygote in my womb."

If that didn't get the pout off of Tomas's face then there was clearly something wrong with him that she'd need to fix using potions and severe psychotherapy. She was quite pleased with herself, though, and that much was obvious - she slipped away from her bench after putting away the file she'd been working on and leaned back against the counter next to Tomas's stool.

"And Chinese Restaurant Syndrome. Characterized by numbness in the limbs, caused by glutamic acid?" Honestly, did she have to explain everything to him?

Tomas continued to stare at Avis, his eyes narrowed in an investigative manner. The only word he'd really caught was 'womb,' and while he hadn't been paying much attention. But, with his trained auror skills, he was able to rewind and replay in his mind what she'd said.

What the fuck was a zygote?

That didn't matter. Only one thing could grow in a woman's womb, and he supposed if their baby had a little friend named Zygote, that was fine. Avis didn't seem too worried about it, at least.

His gaze softened as a small smile began to twitch on his lips. He'd been quite sure of his fertilization skills, but to actually have it confirmed was a very---very overwhelming feeling that he couldn't quite react to, or with, just yet.

"You're sure?" he asked in a low tone, hand creeping toward Avis'.

"Do you honestly think that I am capable of being 'unsure' of something like this and still telling you?" She knew how important it was for Tomas to have a child now at this time in his life, and she wouldn't dare put that into reality unless she was sure it was something she wouldn't have to take back later.

She let her hand slide over Tomas's and nodded, giving his hand a little squeeze.

"Of course I'm sure." Not only had she taken one of the 'home potions', but she'd also gone to see her family doctor (the muggle way) and a healer.

"Holy crap."

Tomas pulled Avis onto his lap, his arms going around her immediately. She was sure that she was pregnant. That they were pregnant! They'd decided six months ago to try and have a baby, but Tomas would only admit to Avis and himself that he had pictured a life with her and kids and---Geoffrey seemed like a gift from God, filling in a void that Tomas had been feeling and---

This was something that had taken them a long damn time to get to. The marriage part--well, okay, that had taken them a long time too, but they were basically a married couple without the papers and vows and--

Okay, this baby was just the culmination of all their entire long relationship and...

"I don't have anything romantic to say," Tomas murmured, leaning in close to Avis. "But I'll get fat with you too, if you want me to."

She let herself be pulled into his lap (while making sure that she wasn't going to knock anything over with her feet) and dropped her cheek to his shoulder.

"I think that's pretty romantic if Erin's complaints about pregnancies are anything to go on." She was pretty sure that most women who had ever been pregnant complained about getting fat, so the fact Tomas was willing to get fat too...

"But I think perhaps you just want to eat a lot of ice cream and pizza while I'm pregnant."
