Sebastian!
Mackenzie felt absolutely no guilt for slipping out of the reception with Sebastian so soon after dinner had ended and dancing had begun. In fact, if Rachel found out and was the
slightest bit peeved, she was just going to have to deal with it. Yes!
Deal with it because
Mackenzie had never felt this happy since...
she couldn't remember when, and as much as she loved her friend and understood the other woman's deepest desire for perfection, it just wasn't going to happen tonight concerning Sebastian and Mackenzie Goldstein. They had found a nice side corridor that was secluded away, and weren't making out in the middle of the party, and that was the best they could do.
Besides, it was New Year's Eve! Was she not allowed to ring in the new year with a snog from her husband? The fact that they still had a good while until midnight was a minor detail at this point; it didn't matter. Like many of their previous problems, they too no longer mattered and had washed away with their impromptu 'vacation'.
Vacation, travel... hiding excursion, it didn't matter. They were both
happy for once, and no person was going to change Mackenzie's mood anytime fast. Not her family, Matilda, or anyone else that was present tonight who had previously plagued her with worry and doubt. Nope, not anymore. As upsetting as it was, Evan's death had forced Mackenzie to realize that her past, and the people concerning it, was ruining her future with Sebastian.
Maybe all the almost dying, having your family almost fall apart and having to go into hiding made you realize important things like that. Mackenzie just wished she hadn't been so stubborn and grasped all this sooner.
But none of that now. Anthony was home safe with his grandparents, no one had yet to bother them, and Sebastian was
tickling her. A wide smile easily made its way onto her face as her nose began to scrunch funnily. Despite Mackenzie's best efforts, she could not hold back her laughter and had to pull her lips off his.
"Not fair!" she laughed, trying to reach for his hand. Whether it was on purpose, or by accident, she really couldn't care.
