"Is that all?" he asked, tone inappropriately amused as a small laugh escaped. "Please, Grayson. I've invited you to be painfully honest with me all your life. I have little patience for tact and other such elusory techniques."
He licked his lips as he surveyed his brother out of the corner of his eye. This was the moment of truth, quite literally. Amery did not doubt that Grayson was slowly opening his eyes to just how plausible it was that it was he who was the spy. He also did not doubt that there would be brutal consequences for such a thing—after all, did they not have an argument along the same vein just two years before? But if he did lie, how long would Amery be able to keep it up? Grayson was already paying for more attention that Amery had ever believed his brother possible of, despite the somewhat self-concerned image Amery had always believed his brother touted.
"It was." His neck tensed as he watched his brother's face carefully. He'd demanded honesty and directness of his brother… as much as it might hurt it, Amery supposed it was as much as he owed Grayson, too.
