Who: Desmond and 'April'
What: An ... appointment
Where: On the phone, then Demond's flat

Oh Merlin, he bloody hated this sort of thing. He was really quite good at handling stress most of the time (two ministers dying over as many years, anyone?), but when it came to April ... things were different. They always had been. Yes, it was because she was a prostitute - because it made things more difficult to have to sneak around in order to not worry about his reputation, but also because he still wasn't sure how she felt about him.

After all, it would be easy for her to consider him a client and nothing more...or a client that had a weird crush on her that she wanted to ignore but couldn't because he still ended up paying. And purebloods thought they had expensive girlfriends...he frowned and picked up his phone, dialing in her number with a flick of his finger and drumming his hand on the table while he waited for her to pick up. Thank Merlin she was a squib - it made using the phone easier than owls.

Ring, ring...

Laying on her back, Skylar (or, April as she was known by her job and her clients) kept her legs crossed, her toe bouncing to the sound of the music that was playing on her stereo. Incense was lit all around her room, since a joint was still burning between her pointer and middle finger. It was a rare occasion for her to be able to enjoy the little things in life, since she was rarely ever at home. At least not at this time, when she actually wanted to be home. She couldn’t even remember the last time she had slept in her own bed, and thought tonight would be the night…

…and then her phone rang. The phone, the one that was in her room that got all of her work calls. She groaned, and put her roach in the ashtray, blowing the smoke out the window as she reached over to lazily grab her phone, twirling the wire with her hand as she gently cleared her throat. “…April Anderson, at your service.” She smirked as she spoke, her voice low and sultry.

At least she'd answered, which meant she wasn't going to be busy tonight as far as he could tell. Desmond wouldn't admit out loud how relieved he was, but it was apparent in the eagerness in his voice. "Hi, April! It's Desmond." As if she didn't know that from his voice already - he wasn't sure why he'd even said that. Maybe she even recognized his number by now ... or maybe not.

He flexed his fingers and tried to relax his hand against the tabletop. "I was wondering if you had some time tonight ... you know, for me." Because the new minister was extremely demanding, and he'd put on his best gown already and that hadn't helped - so he'd changed into his plain clothes again and picked up the phone in hopes that he'd be able to catch April. He didn't talk freely to most people, even his friends, but he felt more relaxed around April since he'd been ... 'seeing' her for so long.

The second she had heard that voice, she knew who she was speaking to. She smiled against the telephone receiver, her finger twirling around the phone cord. “Hello, Desmond!” It was sort of a relief, that if the phone were to ring, it would be one of her regulars and not some new guy that she didn’t know. At least she was familiar with where she was going…and at least she was really fond of the man who was calling her. She didn’t know how she felt about Desmond, but to her…their relationship was strictly professional. He did talk to her about a lot of things, but so did many of the other men who required her, uh…services. It was complicated, but she made a habit of never dating her clients.

“Of course I have time for you, baby.” She giggled a little, and sat upright, pulling her legs up close to her chest. “How much time would you like, hon? I don’t have any plans until tomorrow morning, so I’m all yours until then…if you want me to be.” She smirked again, and rose to her feet, moving over to her drawers to pick out what she would change into, for when she saw him.

"Well..." Nevermind that most of his salary after living expenses went to the woman he was currently on the phone with, "Until tomorrow morning. Yes, that would be ... good." Because if he didn't relax soon, he was fairly sure he was going to end up in St. Mungo's...whether in the psychiatric wing or the ward they kept wizards who'd gone into cardiac arrest. He smiled, allowing himself to relax a little.

"I could make dinner..." Since it would probably be at least a few minutes until she got over. He never expected her to come instantaneously - that would have been silly. Desmond didn't want to upset her in the least, so he tried not to put too much pressure on her ... for anything. Sure, it was her job to have sex with him, but if she was really not in the mood that night (which was a rare occasion indeed, but probably why she was so good at her job) then he didn't force her.

Another smile formed, and she nodded as though he could see her before responding verbally. “I’m glad you think so.” Her hands skimmed through some of her tops. She paused momentarily when he spoke again, and she made a quiet humming noise, as though she were thinking about it. “Well…only if you’re hungry. I haven’t eaten a thing all day, but don’t go through all that trouble just for me. But, if you do make dinner…is there any particular way you’d like me to dress?” A few of her regulars wanted her to dress nicer, depending on what they would be doing, or if she were to meet them somewhere. A lot of her clients didn’t like people knowing that they had hired a call girl to be there date somewhere, so she had a few nicer dresses that covered up the sexy unmentionables she wore beneath them.

"I just want you to be comfortable," he assured her with a slight smile. "You don't need to wear anything special - you know you always look lovely no matter what." And it wasn't as if he cared about clothes all that much anyway. "I'll figure something out for dinner at least, if you haven't eaten." He didn't want her to wither away to nothing, after all. That just would not do. "You can just come over to my place. Nothing fancy." What he really wanted was a quiet night at home, and if he'd had a girlfriend of course he'd call her instead -- but the thing was that he wanted her to be his girlfriend, as unfeasible as that was.

A smirk crept across her lips as he complimented her. “You’re such a sweetheart, Desmond.” It wasn’t very often that men said she looked ‘lovely’. Most called her ‘hot’, or ‘sexy’, or…something completely inappropriate, but he always treated her with respect, despite her career choice. Not that it was really a choice she was proud of, but…she needed the money, and it paid well. Before this, she had been living in an apartment that could be considered a closet in some places. Now, she was living a bit more comfortably…but what she had to do to obtain this comfort wasn’t something she was always thrilled about.

“I won’t keep you waiting too long. I’m just going to hop into a quick shower, throw on some clothes - comfortable clothes, to be more specific – and drive over to your place. This would normally be the point in the conversation where I’d ask for the address, but…I have yours memorized.” She was definitely over there enough to know where she was going.

"That sounds good to me! I'll see you in a few, then." He didn't ask her exactly what time she was coming over because that seemed a bit silly - he was just glad that he'd been able to catch her for tonight before someone else called and stole her away from him. He was unbearably jealous of all the other men he was sure that she saw on a regular basis, but he tried not too hard to think about them so he wouldn't be tempted to ask.

Since he didn't want to waste any more time, he muttered a slightly awkward 'goodbye' and then placed the phone back on its cradle. He was still stupidly excited for all this as he often was, but he had a dinner to make!

Leaning her head back, April made sure that her eyes weren’t as red as they had been before she had hopped in the shower by dropping a few Visine drops into each of them. Looking into the mirror, she rubbed beneath her eyes, and made sure to adjust herself in the top she was wearing. It was easy to please Desmond, since he seemed thrilled to see her no matter what, but since he was paying for her to be there the entire night as well as making her a home cooked meal, she always felt it was right to give him his money’s worth. She wasn’t cheap, especially for an entire night, so a nice blouse (low cut, but still left something to the imagination) and a form fitting pair of jeans that showed off all of her curves made up her outfit. A pair of pumps and some jewelry helped pull it all together.

Her hair fell in curls tonight, right past her shoulders. Slender digits slid through the silky strands, before she looked over to the clock. She had been trying to hurry, but not be too quick, since she figured he still needed some time to get things ready.

Grabbing her purse, she exited her flat and locked the door behind her, her keys still in hand since she needed them for her car. Hopping inside of the beat up vehicle (hey, she was still struggling with money…and it got her around), she started the ignition and made her way over to her well paying client’s home. She checked her makeup and hair in the mirror one more time, applied a little more lip gloss, and then started on her way towards his place. Raising a hand, she gave a rhythmic knock and waited patiently for him to open the door. Once he did, she looked up at him, giving him a large smile before playfully posing. “I’m here to deliver a very special package. I hope it’s what you ordered.”

Oh, she was just ... so adorable. She wasn't as terribly business-like as some of the women he'd gone through before settling on her as his regular, and she was certainly gorgeous. What could a man find to complain about, really?

He opened the door wide for her and gave her a once-over before he answered her question, putting a thoughtful finger to his lips. "You know, I think that it will do just fine. And my thanks for the timely delivery," he teased as he ushered her inside. No need for her to catch a chill on the step, after all. Desmond smiled broadly.

He'd made up some pasta and chicken for dinner - nothing too fancy, but there was a good salad to start as well and it wasn't like she expected too much out of him, he hoped. The pasta was good, he thought - an excellent sauce that he'd had in the freezer from a week or two ago when he'd made a larger batch. Working with the Minister made it impossible for him to predict when he would and wouldn't be home, so frozen portions of things made it easier to eat at any possible time.

She placed her hands on her hips, smiling a little before she tilted her head to the side. “I’d like to think my deliveries are always timely…but, you’re welcome all the same.” She stepped into his flat as he let her inside, glad to feel the heat against her skin, which was now a bit cold even though she had only been standing there for a few moments, if anything.

Her fingers started to unbutton the wool coat she was wearing, looking around the familiar setting as her boots clicked against the floor beneath her. “Mmm…it smells great in here.” She made sure to look over her shoulder at him so he could see the smile on her face, her jacket sliding down off her shoulders before she laid it carefully over the back of the couch. Flattening the fabric of her shirt, she started walking towards the kitchen, smiling at the sight of the table that was set. “Wow, all this for me?” She turned to look at him again, placing her hands behind her back as she stepped closer to him. “Can I do anything to help?”

"Of course it's all for you. I do intend to have a bite or two myself, of course." Even if he wasn't terribly hungry. What mattered was that he got to have a dinner with a beautiful woman whose company he enjoyed immensely.

"You don't need to do a thing but sit down and relax. You can grab yourself a glass of wine, if you want." There was a red and a white on the table, and she could pick from either one - there were appropriate glasses as well. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to her cheek - never the lips unless she did so first - before he started taking the food to the table.

Desmond never ceased to amaze her. It was something really simple like someone cooking dinner for her that made her realize how incredibly disgusting some of the other men who called her were. They didn’t care about her, they cared about the sex that they were paying for. It was her job to please men, she knew that, but still…it was nice to be reminded how girls were treated when men weren’t paying for them. Not that Desmond wasn’t paying for her, but…it was different.

She smirked as he kissed her on the cheek. Watching him walk back into the kitchen, she pivoted on her heel and grabbed the glass of red wine that had been poured. She brought it to her lips, watching him over the rim as he brought the food out. Taking a sip, she pulled out her own chair, even though she was sure he would have done it for her had she given him the opportunity. Sitting down, she pulled herself closer to the table and watched as he took his own seat beside her.

They ate dinner, making small talk throughout the meal, and before she knew it her plate was empty. Dabbing at her mouth with a napkin, she placed it down on the table and looked over to her date for the evening. “I never knew you cooked.” She said with a crooked smirk before she leaned over, placing her hand on his leg. “It was wonderful. Thank you.” With that, she placed a kiss upon his lips, leaving it quick and soft before she pulled away, leaning her elbow on the table so she could lean her temple against her knuckles as she looked at him, keeping her hand where it was on his thigh. “What’s the matter, hon? You look…troubled. Is there something on your mind?”

"Well, there is everything going on with the new Minister settling in. It's just getting very busy, especially with the New Year on approach." There were budgets to be considered, and councils to be appointed and re-appointed ... and with the new Minister coming in at just the most inopportune time things were stressful.

He tried to flash another small smile. "It will all blow over soon, of course. It always does." The fact was too that Corner had been a good Minister even if he'd been extremely demanding, so he had that to mourn as well while not losing sight of what needed to be finished for the new Minister.

"You're welcome as always, April." He blushed slightly at the kiss and shifted once her hand settled on his leg, bringing his own down to rest on top of hers.

“Hm… I’m sure it must be hard for you. I wish I knew more about politics, so I could ask more questions and understand the answers.” She was a very caring person, so she did want to be able to talk to him about work and not sound like a complete idiot while also, just maybe, being a little helpful. At least if she knew what he was talking about, she could react accordingly. At this thought, she smiled at him again. “Would you teach me? About the Ministry, that is. I’m sure you’d make it really easy for me to understand.” She turned her hand so she could hold onto his. “Please?” She asked with raised brows, once again leaning in towards him. “I promise I’ll teach you something, in return.” She smirked before she kissed him again, her hand reaching up so her fingers could slide back through his hair. Pulling back, she kept her face close to his. “I think that’s a fair trade, don’t you?"

"It's honestly just frustrating since the rest of the Ministry doesn't always agree with recommendations or put them into action even though people are obligated to." Which was just bloody annoying, really. Whenever someone was discontent about the minister he was the one that inevitably ended up holding the howler, so to speak.

Desmond was absolutely ecstatic that she'd even consider starting to learn about politics of the Wizarding world. "Of course," he beamed, "I wouldn't mind at all, and you know that you already do so much for me..." Even if he did pay for it.

She pouted slightly when he mentioned how frustrating it was, her thumb brushing over the back of his hand as she listened to him continue on. The look on his face when he agreed to her little deal made her giggle slightly. She hadn’t seen him that happy in a while. “I’m starting to think you don’t want to learn something new. It could be very beneficial to you, in the long run.” She smirked, and then rose to her feet, pulling her up with her. “Come on, let’s start now. I have an idea about how we can make this interesting.” She grinned at him, both of her hands pulling on his one as she backed over to the couch. When they got there, she had him sit down. “Now…I want you to tell me as much as you can about the Ministry, in small doses. If I can remember what you told me, when you think you’ve said enough…I win that round. But if I can’t…than you win. We’ll come up with other rules as we go. And there’s no cheating!” She smiled, and placed her hands on her hips. “Ready?”

He grinned a little bit and then nodded, smoothing his hand through his hair before she stood up and started guiding him away. He allowed it, if only because she seemed to be enjoying herself already and he'd be able to talk about politics.

"I think that sounds good." He cleared his throat before he started ... well, more or less rambling. She didn't know what she'd gotten herself into.

"All right, so. There are seven departments in the ministry, but the department of magical law enforcement is the biggest -- for obvious reasons. There are subdepartments and things like that, of course -- but there are seven main ones. Enforcement deals with Aurors and the Improper use of Magic, as well as the Magical Law Enforcement Squad."

“So…okay…” she twisted her mouth as she tried to think back on all that he had just said. “…law enforcement has Aurors, and…they deal with the improper use of magic, and has a magical law enforcement squad, and is one of…um…six other departments?” She looked at him hopefully, groaning when he corrected her. “Damn!” She said as she combed her hair back with her fingers, sighing heavily. “Alright, alright…fair is fair…you win.” She started removing the jewelry she was wearing, giving him a devious look as she placed all of the small pieces down on the table, turning back to him once it was all off. She tilted her head. “Oh…didn’t I mention? We’re playing for clothes.” A grin appeared on her face. “Now, I want to try again…I’m determined to win.

Well, at least she'd retained most of that. He smiled and leaned in to kiss her cheek, although his eyes widened once she explained how they were playing.

"Isn't it a bit unfair that you don't get a turn to ask me to learn about anything? You did say that you were going to teach me something, after all..."

“Patience is a virtue, Mr.Riddock.” She gave him a smile, and then quirked a brow. ”Besides, who said that what I’m going to teach you requires you to ask questions?” After that question was out there, she placed her hands on her hips again. “Now, are we going to keep playing? I told you, I’m determined to win.”

"I am probably the last person you need to tell that to, Miss April." He laughed quietly and then rubbed the back of his neck a little more.

"Yes, yes. All right. There is the Department of Magical Transportation, which deals with flooing and portkeys -- and another Department for the regulation and control of magical creatures."

“Soo…the department of magical transportation deals with flooing and portkeys…annnd…there’s another for the regulation and control of magical creatures?” She knew she was correct, and smirked before leaning over to grab his glasses off of his face. After she placed them on the table beside her jewelry, she turned back to him and leaned forward, resting her hands on his shoulders, lifting her leg up onto the couch beside him, using that as leverage to swing her other leg up on the other side, sitting on his lap as she straddled him. Her hand moved to once again run through his hair, stopping at the back of his neck to play with the shorter brunette strands, her other hand sliding down his chest, playing with the top button of his shirt. “What else?”

It was a bit difficult, even for Desmond, to think about something like work when there was suddenly a lovely young woman sitting in his lap and toying with his hair. He blinked, blushing only slightly while she spoke.

"... I seem to have lost my train of thought," he replied earnestly, "You tend to do that to me." Which was part of the reason he so enjoyed her company - sometimes he just didn't want to have to think about anything but pleasing someone else. He supposed that might've been part of the appeal of April's job, anyway.

She smirked at his confession, her brilliant blue eyes traveling down to pay attention to undoing the button she had been playing with before, letting her fingers slide down to undo the next button before turning back to him. She remembered the first time she had met him, and how she couldn’t believe how intense his eyes were. They weren’t like any pair she had seen before. Even now, as she stared into them, she was fascinated by them. It was one of his many endearing qualities. “So does that mean you don’t want to play anymore?” She undid the second button, looking down again as she went for the third. “If so…that means I win, by default.” The third button was undone, and she looked up at him again, moving towards the next in line. “And if I win…I think I deserve a prize.”

He was very good at pleasing women, he thought, as far as giving them what they wanted and being able to read them. The problem was that he was terribly awkward with dates and that sort of thing, so he'd never had much luck outside of school wooing girls - and nowadays he was a bit too busy to worry about that sort of thing anyway.

Desmond smiled slightly and brought his hands to her hips, stroking slowly. "You do deserve a prize, I think." He leaned in and pressed a kiss behind her ear, nibbling gently.

She shut her eyes as he kissed the sensitive area behind her ear, letting out a pleased hum as he used his teeth. Her fingers curled around his hair, tugging on it enough to get him to lean back. She kissed him on the lips, letting it linger for a while before she pulled back enough to speak against his mouth. “…I’m glad you agree…” With a smirk, she kissed him again, deeply this time. Her tongue massaged against his own, dropping her other hand down to help undo the rest of the buttons on his shirt. Once it was open, she moved from his mouth to his jaw line, her trail of kisses moving down his neck as she moved her one hand down his chest, her nails gently grazing the skin that was now exposed. Her hips moved against his own as she let another pleased noise escape from her throat.
