Edward!
It was very overwhelming to have so many people interested in her book. In her. Graciela had been more than surprised when Calliope suggested they do a tour of this large a scale, thinking that there was no way she had this many readers (even though the numbers...), pero. It seemed that she did. It was very, very overwhelming to see the lines head out of the bookstores and into the streets, and then there were interviews to be taken for local papers and---deus, she had just wanted to write a story. It was nice, of course, it was very nice to hear her readers' reactions personally, and to see how her stories had affected so many, but to be the reason behind the excitement in the room was---overwhelming.

She was a writer, you would think she could find another word.

The interviews and the events became too overwhelming when she was asked about her family, a theme that was very strong in her books. Graciela could not help but flounder and mutter her way through the questions regarding Alex as she was very sure only her direct family members knew about the divorce. They had managed to go through things so quickly because they had been so amicable about everything, because---they were still friends, they---

When she escaped to the green room after one disastrous wireless interview in Israel (her poor translator!), she nearly collapsed on the couch with relief. Graciela did not like lying, but there were only so many ways you could turn a question around and not really answer it at all. It was exhausting, and she winced when Edward entered the room, knowing how terrible the interview must have sounded like.

"Now you see---I work better with the quill," she joked weakly.

Edward let out a feeble smile as he approached Graciela. The interview hadn't been that disastrous, in all honesty. Just that... there was room for improvement concerning her anxiety and speaking about herself. Specifically, he had noticed she had some difficulty when it came to talking about her family. Private matters were always uncomfortable to talk about to a complete stranger, let alone with the knowledge that your words would be posted for hundreds of eyes to see, so in the grander scheme of things it wasn't really all that bad. Graciela just needed practice, that was all.

"I think you did fine," Edward spoke, glad he could speak truthfully. Lying had never been one of his strong suits, so in this case it was settling to know Graciela would see he truly meant what he said. "You will get comfortable with it soon enough, and then everything will fall into place."

In fact, all of this was something that both of them would have to get comfortable with. Edward had been on book tours like this before, but never completely on his own in the sense that he was the first one in charge behind the scenes. So while he wasn't necessarily completely on his own, the trip running smoothly was totally in his hands. A terrifying but exciting fact, he supposed, once he finally got past the terrifying part. Which, by the by, still had not occurred, but Patrick had assured him it would.

Graciela smiled and looked away, down at the carpet. She pressed the tips of her pointed shoes into the material and let out a breath. There was no way she would be able to dodge questions for long, even if she was not that kind of celebrity. What if one of those that opposed her views and saw her books as a nuisance found out; they could call her a hypocrite, and say other terrible things about herself and Alex, or the rest of her family---

The thought made her realize that she should not keep this secret any longer. Graciela knew that while she did not enjoy the attention put on herself, a very big part of the secrecy was caused by shame. Shame. They could not make their marriage work, Alex had cheated on her, and though her sister had cursed his name to the end of time for it, Graciela could not help but thing---could she have done more? Alex said it was not about her, but maybe she had been too busy with the book, or maybe she had not kept herself pretty enough after having a baby and....

She sighed again, "Edward," Graciela turned to him, grimacing, "If I tell you something, do you promise to not say anything? Until I can tell other people, of course." It had only been three months, she thought grimly.

Oh Merlin. Patrick had not prepared him for something like this. Secrets? Edward couldn't handle secrets, especially when it came to the work place. There were secrets that his writer wanted to confine in him until she could tell others first. That was not something he wanted to hear hundreds of miles away from home. That was something he would've liked to know before they even set foot on this tour.

But, what was done was done, and he couldn't go back in time to change the past (well--). Taking a deep breath, Edward began to nod his head slowly. He could handle this. And he was getting a head of himself. He had no idea what Graciela wanted to say to him; it could be nothing. This thought alone calmed him greatly. So much so that he was able to genuinely able to look at her calmly, his smile from before still lingering on his face.

Alright. He was ready. He could handle this. He would handle this. "Of course, Graciela. You can tell me anything of the utmost importance and, I will naturally respect you wishes concerning them." As he spoke, Edward nodded his head slowly. Should he move to sit next to her? Or would that be pushing it too far? Deciding on the latter, Edward chose to stay where he stood. No need to create anything more uncomfortable.

Graciela muttered a thanks and her knee began to bounce. How would he see her? Her marriage had always been out of the ordinary, at least to a woman who was raised in the church like she was---Graciela had come to accept that God's plans did not always work in the right order, but now that she had been cheated on and was now divorced, it made her wonder if she was being punished for going about everything in the wrong way. Graciela tried to believe that it wasn't a punishment, that her son would not be as healthy as he was now, or that her books would not be as successful, but it was hard not to have the lingering thoughts.

"Alex and I---we have separated," she said slowly, realizing she'd only said the words out loud a few times, when she had to inform her family. Graciela felt ashamed and kept her head ducked, glad for the veil her loose hair provided around her face. "Divorced, it--everything is done, but we have not been very---I have not told my friends, because it--it is a hard thing to tell."

Graciela took a breath and sat a bit straighter. She wished for Andrea to waltz in Zacharias to bring her some joy and get her out of the gloomy mood she was putting herself in, but she knew that her sister was on a very nice tour with her son around Jerusalem. Graciela smiled weakly at Edward, hoping to lighten the matter but knowing he would have some questions, yes?

"I should have informed Calliope, I know, but it was very---" Graciela nodded her head back and forth, deciding she could not find a better word for the entire ordeal, "--painful, and I did not know how to go about such things."

Edward watched Graciela intently, observing that now was the best moment to put his good listening skills to work. He might not be very good at noticing certain things, or catching on quickly-- but Edward had always been good at listening to people carefully enough to understand what they were saying and what they weren't saying for a reason.

But this was not one of those cases. Graciela was very straight forward with him, and for that he was at the very least thankful. Not of her situation, of course, but that he was able to understand the severity of it. She was sad, hurt, because she and her husband had broken up. Edward had barely known Alex, only though his school memories, but it had been nothing more than that. He had no opinion on the other man, well--- until now. Now he was the man that was making his writer, his friend, feel embarrassed and ashamed.

His brows dropped at that thought, and suddenly Edward felt very protective of Graciela. There was no reason for her to feel this way. Of course, she could be sad, but--- not these other emotions he was detecting from her. Mouth pulling into a frown, Edward approached the couch she was sitting on to carefully place himself next to her.

"It's fine," he started suddenly, moving a hand to pat her back. Giada had always told him that to make someone feel better, you had to touch their back. Whether it be through a pat, or a rub or hold. And since rubbing Graciela's back was highly unprofessional, a pat it was. "I do not want you to worry about Calliope concerning this. Your private life is that-- private. Do not worry about that. I will talk to your next interviewers from now on about not bringing up your personal life."

He hoped that the professional side of her would be calmed by that. But now, for the other side. "Concerning what actually happened," he continued, flipping to a friend tone. "I am sorry," he stated, lips again pulling into a deeper frown. "I will be here to listen, as a friend." Somewhere he was sure Giada was crying tears of joy at all her work on his social skills paying off.

Out of all the people she had informed about the divorce, Edward had been the calmest. Her father and brother...and sister, they had all ranted and raved, and her mother had tried not to break into tears but had failed miserably. All of their reactions had just made Graciela cry and think about how she could have prevented this flow of events and emotions, but it all led back to being unsure of what she had done wrong. There was a voice in her head that told her it had not only been her doing, that a marriage takes two people to work, pero--it was hard not to be guilt-ridden.

She was Catholic, after all.

It did cause her some relief when Edward stated that she would not have to speak about her private life anymore. Graciela managed a smile and nodded, thankful that he hadn't been too alarmed by the news. That was what she was afraid of, with breaking the news to her friends---they would ask questions, what had happened, how was she doing, was Zacharias okay---She should be strong enough to answer all of their inquiries, but it took so much energy to just think about the reasons behind the divorce that she did not know if she could manage to explain it to anyone. Maybe they would all just realize soon that Alex was in Greece and she did not seem to mention him at all.

"I have had...some time to get used to the idea," she started to explain, feeling as if she needed to at least give Edward some information, as she did need him to trust her if they wanted to continue being a good team on this tour, "We filed in April because of---" Her face flushed, "Things I could not--prevent, and---I have full custody of Zac, pero of course he will see his father and will probably spend some summers in Greece which would be nice for him and...it was---very amicable."

She winced at the word. Graciela wished at least one of them had gone down fighting, but they were too much of a lost cause to exert themselves in that way. "I just do not want my readers to think I am a liar, I very much believe in family and marriage, things are---they are not perfect like the books."
