WHO: Rebecca and Euan Abercrombie!
WHAT: GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!
WHERE: Their hidden flat!
WHEN: TODAY!
STATUS: Maybe finishing in comments?
Rebecca felt like she’d been hiding under a rock for the past year and some giant, magical creature had just lifted the stone and unleashed sunlight onto her cramped form. Okay, that was sort of dramatic, but she was running up the stairs to the small flat in the cramped complex she and Euan had been living in since they had run away together. Run away together. Did that sound like anything Rebecca Corner would have done in Hogwarts? She was nothing like the person who had left Slytherin over a year ago, and she was happy for it. She was a healer, she was a wife, she was a person who gave things up for the ones she loved, she was----SUPER EXCITED!
“EUAN!” she screamed before she’d even been able to unlock their door. With their lives under cover, the Abercrombies had been forced to do a lot of things the muggle way. Oh, how Rebecca couldn’t wait until they could be fully back into the wizarding world, it was going to be amazing. The crumpled prophet in one hand made it hard for her to find her keys and put them into the lock, but she managed it and she burst into the flat looking for her husband.
Her husband. Euan! She had given up 90% of her life for him and now---”Euuuuuuuuuuuuan!”
Where was he? There weren’t many places to be in this flat. Oooh, they were so going to buy a mansion with her inheritance, after this!
Of course Euan had heard the news. He did not live under a rock, and his parents had made it absolutely clear that they were going to call the second this ‘whole silliness’ was over with. His mother had indeed called the instant that (he assumed) she had the Prophet on her doorstep, and he had tried his best to assure her he would be returning to his ‘proper place in the wizarding world’ as soon as he could manage to.
He still had paperwork to do, though. Working out of home for St. Mungo’s had proved to be almost more effort than it was worth, but Euan did not want to risk losing his position at the hospital. Officially he was an ‘anonymous outside consultant’ for the hospital, but they had assured him he’d be returned to his full position as soon as possible. Although he was not at all expecting his wife’s shrieks through the door, he had been married to her in this cramped little apartment for long enough to know that they were joyful screams. He glanced up from the papers on his desk, attempting to mask the fact he already knew what she was jumping about for.
“Yes? Can I … help you?”
“Did you hear!” She squeaked, jumping in place as she found her husband. “They caught him! That terrible man that tried to kill you!” It was the happiest she’d ever said those words, and Rebecca slid onto Euan’s lap, wrapping her arms around his neck and continuing her news, “They caught him outside of Berlin, isn’t that mad? He must have been getting desperate, he actually used his own bank account so they were able to track him immediately and----you know!”
Rebecca frowned deeply as she spotted the rolled up Prophet on the bookshelf across the room. She swatted Euan in the shoulder, “You knew and you let me go on like a banshee!”
Would she have minded her behavior had she been the one to break the news? No, absolutely not, because her initial reactions could not have been stopped! But, she could have avoided using such high pitched voice and looking foolish and---Rebecca huffed quickly before she kissed her husband soundly on the lips, as she was far too happy about this new development to fight with him right now. Later, she’d save her words for later.
“...well, yes. But you’re so cute when you’re a banshee,” he couldn’t help the slight chuckle that he let out. She had been rather cute, with all the flailing and kissing and shouting. That was part of the reason he loved her -- because she was a little crazier than he could ever imagine himself being.
“And you can blame my mother for spoiling your opportunity to break the news to me, if you must know.” He shook his head and let his arms slide around Rebecca’s waist, sneaking in for another kiss. “I do hope you know that this means we’re going to have to pack up all of our things that we’ve accumulated.”
Or, he supposed, they could leave them all here. It would be … symbolic.
Well, she couldn’t exactly yell at his mother. If it had been Giada or one of his friends, Rebecca would have been able to at least make some sort of snippy comment. But, alas. She’d just have to deal. It was the least of her problems, right now, but as she kissed her husband again, Rebecca realized that she didn’t have many problems anymore! They didn’t have to live in hiding, they could go back to regular hours at the hospital, they could have visitors and dinner parties and---and babies.
Rebecca knew that it had been silly to try and conceive while they were in such a situation, but it had quickly become an obsession of hers. She had been looking for everything and anything that could make their lives better, happier, and what could be more amazing than a baby? It didn’t help that her mother had wailed, insisting that if she couldn’t throw her only daughter a wedding, she may as well give her another grandchild!
“I’ll hire the finest movers in the country, first thing in the morning.” Rebecca maneuvered herself into a more comfortable position on her husband’s lap, kissing him slowly. They had more important things to get on with, right now.
