Edward!
Her new year's resolution,
Graciela had decided, was to ask Edward out for some tea. Except it would be more than just the tea they'd shared before, when discussing her books and future plans for the tour or whatever Calliope was interested in doing, it was going to be a tea that took place at night, at a restaurant.
Where she probably wasn't going to order any tea at all.
She should probably specify this resolution, seeing as just asking to meet for tea could lead her back to where she started; Edward seeing her as a friend and herself having this non-reciprocated crush on this very clueless man. Things had gotten better, of course---with the end of the war, with the holidays, it was easier for Graciela to ignore the nagging feelings she had for Edward because she was so distracted with everything. Alex was home for the holidays to be with Zacharias, so
that nagged at her---actually, he was
here, at the party, and it was the first time they'd been in the same room together outside of their--
her house.
It was why Graciela was making a beeline toward the kitchen, or at least the back of the house. Alex was catching up with his old schoolmates toward the entrance, and she had no desire to hear him laugh; it was around the holidays last year that their fighting and distance had truly began. Graciela let out a breath and picked at the plates of wonderfully prepared food that were refilling themselves with every pluck of her fingers. Maybe she could just hide out here all night, until the secret Santa gifts were presented.
