Ralph!
Miranda was sure she'd never get tired of showing off her engagement ring. Sure, she'd had it for months now, and
sure, she and Ralph had already been married---it'll be two months on the first day of the next year. But, really. Whenever someone she hadn't seen in a while popped up in the crowd of party goers, there was a loud shriek of joy, hugs, and then a quick, 'Let me see the ring!'
And of course she did, because she loved her engagement ring just as much as she loved Ralph, her husband.
The excitement of it still had not worn off, not in the slightest. It helped that only Greta knew about their eloping (they had to tell her, if Miranda was to convince her to let Ralph move in with them until they could afford a flat on their own). Her mother was ridiculously excited to have a wedding to plan, and her brothers were all up in arms about everything---it was just amazing, fantastic really, and it was so easy to forget how terrible of a year it had been right up until October 31st.
...it was also very easy to
remember how terrible of a year it had been, and Miranda excused herself from a conversation consisting of the now common phrase, 'the last time I saw the Potters---' She moved through the crowd and easily found Ralph, who seemed to be enjoying all of his time out in public. Miranda slid her arms around him from behind,
"Can I steal him away?" she asked, craning her neck around his side to wink at the person Ralph had been talking to.
