「ςecilia → ℎooke」 ([info]cecilias) wrote in [info]valesco,
"Not terribly," she lied easily.

Taking a long drag on the proffered cigarette, Cecilia let the calming smoke overtake her before slowly blowing it out. It was the same thing she told every man who dared to ask her company in this place--of course she did not come here often. Such a thing was unbecoming of a woman of her stature. She may have taken a heavy fall from grace following Evan and Donovan's respective exits from her life, but it did not mean that she wished to advertise that to the general public. It was why she also ventured to amuse any man such as this who wished to pretend he was an A-class ladies man by picking her up.

But no one, especially not some pretty stranger, had the right to know the first thing about her life.

"The clientele are a bit boorish, wouldn't you say?" That said, anywhere classier would have ended her in the sights of the pureblood society she so wished to avoid. It was either crude company, or public embarrassment--she hadn't really yet decided which was worse. "I just felt like getting out tonight."

Peering out of the side of her vision, Cecilia watched the stranger just as he sent her a smile that she assumed he felt was charming--Well, alright, it wasn't terribly uncharming. A couple of years ago, she might have found him very charming, in fact.

A lot of things had changed in a couple of years. These days, such things were borderline unamusing altogether, although she certainly wasn't one to let that on. She enjoyed talking up men to pretend she wasn't lonely... nothing more. They meant nothing to her--or at least she had sworn that no man would mean anything to her again. It was all more trouble than it was worth.

"And yourself?" she asked. "Are you visiting from out of town?"
