Bess felt such a wave of relief at Drystan's quick and positive reaction. Oh! She kissed him back with great vigor and just watched him in amazement. She knew her husband was a little old fashioned, and she'd always made it a point to say that she was a working woman with a career and professional goals, and she'd probably get some slack for it but---she had three beautiful children at home, all under the age of five. How could she just ship them off to a day care when she didn't have to?
That was the nice part. Poor Sadie had spent most of her young life at daycare or with her uncle or aunt while Bess worked to keep the rent and put food on the table. Sadie was always asking her mother why she was home, why was she here, but always being quite happy that she was. Bess felt terrible for not being more attentive during her daughter's first years of life and now that she had the chance to stay home with her, and with Stephen who'd lost his parents so young, and with Brian who came from the love of her life it just---she did not think any job could make her happier at the moment.
Maybe one day she'd go crazy, but right now she was quite content with her life.
"I'm sure, I've been nervous about bringing it up." Bess smiled and her chest lifted with a great intake of breath, "I didn't want you to think I was giving up on being a solicitor. I don't give up on things very often."
