Charlie did a little shake of his head and shoulders, "Yeah, well, that's probably why they take such a keen interest in annoying me."
Honestly, his inability to accept jest and teasing was what had ended him up in detention so many times at Hogwarts. Fights would break out because Charlie could not handle any sort of humiliation, and the lack of...apathy? What was the word for being able to not care what others thought? Whatever it was, he lacked it, and it had carried over into his quidditch career. How many times had he been thrown out of a game because of a bad call, or for starting a tussle in midair? Hard to do as a Keeper, the papers would say, but somehow he managed.
He did however, take interest in Penelope as she began to share her reasons for hiding. He took more interest at how prettily her hair had fallen and for the first time during his little escape into the closet he felt slightly overwhelmed by the close proximity they were in. Not--not overwhelmed, as he was very experienced in this area, but the fact that he'd just found this beautiful girl in here and wasn't exactly allowed to do anything made his throat clench.
"Inebriated--?" he repeated nearly after she spoke the words, but then winced greatly as he recognized the laughter as Finn McLaggen's. Oh, hell. This was even worse than one of his teammates, McLaggen was notorious when it came to start rivalries and twisting the knife in the wound. "Come here, come here, just for a moment---"
Charlie reached forward and one hand went to her waist while the other went to grasp Penelope's face as if they'd just broken apart from a kiss. The door of the closet was pulled open and Charlie kept his gaze on Penelope for a few seconds to ensure the authenticity of this cover up. McLaggen let out a groan,
"Can't control yourself off the pitch either, Spinnet?" the other man snapped, and with that he shut the door again. Charlie blinked, eyes trying to adjust to the light and he jumped away from Penelope, flushed.
"Sorry."
