Adrian!
Maggie supposed she looked like a third year deeply in love with the prefect sitting across the room. It was how she felt, that strange twisty feeling in her chest as she stared across the ballroom at Adrian. The people moved and danced and stood in her gaze but she couldn't be bothered to look anywhere else. It wasn't as if she had much to distract her; she'd become a bit of a social pariah since the wedding, and as this was her first public outing, it seemed as if no one really knew how to behave around her. Her teammates gave her hugs and kisses, and of course her brother chatted a bit before being swept away. Odette was doing all she could, but there was no reason to keep her away from the husband she barely got to see these days.
The flash of a camera made her blink rapidly and lose her train of thought. Her face heated up as
The Tattler's signature hot pink tag swung loosely around the photographer's neck. He looked quite pleased to be capturing a shot of her looking lovesick and lonely, and Maggie quickly turned away, only to hear and feel more flashes.
Merlin---there were so many more interesting things going on tonight than the girl who'd been left at the altar. She would just...she probably looked so pathetic, so miserable and it hurt
so much not to be able to stand with Adrian like she had so many times before. That
longing was what hurt the most, and now with her latest secret it was simply unbearable.
Without waiting another second Maggie shot to her feet, holding up the fabric of her dress so she wouldn't trip. It was suddenly feeling very
hot in here and she needed to catch her breath. The doors of the ballroom swung open for her with a spell and she shot away, wondering if there was any need to stay. Adrian had said he wanted to talk to her, but she assumed that had been about his trade. Maggie followed a cool breeze and it led her to an empty and quiet red carpeted staircase, one that must have been used many times for spectacular entrances and announcements of the grandest kind. She went up a few steps before sitting, taking off her shoes and stretching out across the step. If she was going to sit all night feeling miserable for herself, she may as well be comfortable.
