Smile faltering as she babbled and hid her face, Richard shook his head, not that she could see him through her hand. He gently gripped her wrist and pulled her hand down and met her gaze with a searching one, worried that he was coming on too strong. She was so pretty and nice though. He didn't really understand why she got the rap she did from others.
"It's Rich," he told her with a weak smile as his hand slid to take hers. "We didn't talk much. It's alright."
Rubbing his thumb over her fingers, Richard glanced to them as he continued to talk.
"I might have already known your name, Delilah, but I didn't know you. I don't expect you to know me or remember me. I didn't even expect you to want to dance."
He sighed and continued to work her fingers with little massages, not really knowing what he was doing at this point. Richard was drunk and he was nervous, which were not a good combination for him.
"No expectations tonight, alright?" he prompted rhetorically with an imploring look. "Just enjoy yourself. If you want me to go, I can," he added, having trouble keeping the downtrodden sigh out of his voice. "It's fine."
Richard was used to being turned away for being overzealous. It was his calling card.
