Drystan laid one of his hands over hers, keeping them close to his chest. He was somewhat at a loss for words, as he wasn't entirely sure what she meant. Was she saying she wanted a vacation, to take a break from the house, or London, or whatever it was that ailed her, or was the issue that she was tired of staying at home, because she wanted to engage in other pursuits?
Such an opinion probably didn't reflect favourably on his character, but Drystan liked the idea of someone staying home with the children. He didn't strictly believe that person had to be the wife, but, loosely, he was rather appreciative of the idea. That arrangement was what he had grown up with, and although he loved his father, he couldn't imagine not having had his mother there for him as readily as she had been.
Not that he'd ever say so to Bess, and not that he'd really expect her to, if her mind was set on other things. After all, she'd been working when they'd met. Having her home made sense last year, as she was reluctant to leave, and they practically had a newborn on their hands, but now… If, and it was still only an 'if' at this point, working was what she wanted to do…
"How do you mean?" he asked, frowning thoughtfully.
