Samantha!
Thomas smiled for the camera the Scottish fan was holding in front of them at arm's length, bending a bit to make sure he was in the frame. The flash nearly blinded him and the girl's shriek deafened him. He earned another hug and she bounced away, allowing him to finally make his way out of the stadium. Scotland had performed well, but had fallen short. He was glad to have nearly a week to recuperate, thinking that the New Year's Eve party had been a bad idea in more than one way. Thomas let out a cloud of cold air, trudging through the light snow that had fallen earlier in the day.

The whirlwind of the past few days had not allowed his mind to settle and he was looking forward to the walk back to the hotel to at least begin something of a cleanse. The party, the confrontation with Regina, the random girl he'd seemingly taken his frustrations out on, it was all one big mess that Thomas was not looking forward to cleaning up. Or dealing with.

A voice called out his name from behind and Thomas turned, thinking the fan was back. His eyes widened as he realized who it was and he jammed his hands further into his pockets. "Samantha? What are you doing here?"

Samantha struggled with the decision to tell Thomas ahead of time of her coming to Istanbul, but at the end of the day she was always a bigger fan of surprises. So, after a quick day at the office following the recuperation from New Year's, Samantha grabbed the first port key to Istanbul available. Her tickets for the game had been awful, but it was still good to watch him; and the people around her seemed much more enjoyable compared to the families and girlfriends (though not so much this previous season) she ended up sitting by half the time when he got tickets for her.

She had tried to catch him before he left the stadium, but by the time she worked her way around to where the Scottish team was exiting she realized she had missed him. "Oi, McCormack!" she called to him as she saw him from far off, lengthening her stride to catch up to him in the chilly, yet comfortable to her, atmosphere.

Samantha shrugged at the question as she approached, a small smile on her lips. "Some friends from work are in town, and I knew you had a game today so I figured...why not, eh?" When she finally caught up to him she gave him a warm embrace before pulling back to give him a quick peck...nothing too involved for being in public. "Tough game, but you still played wonderfully."

His hands had been shoved so far down into his pockets that his mind, still reeling from the sight of Samantha, had no time to remove them and hug her back. Same for the kiss, he was simply---startled and had no idea how he truly wanted to react. Thomas knew he should be happy to see Samantha because she was his girlfriend, but his heart felt like it was about to putter out. He thought he'd have time to figure out what was going on in his head, and here she was, being happy and sweet because that's the kind of person she was. Happy, sweet, and completely oblivious to the mess in his head.

Thomas dropped his gaze for a moment, lamenting about Scotland's loss and his state of mind. She didn't deserve the false pretense of happiness and excitement he desperately wanted to present her with. He managed to pull one of his hands from his pockets, but only to run it over his face, which was evident with stress.

"I didn't think you'd be here so soon," he admitted, getting the first bit of tension off his shoulders. "I---thank you for coming, but I'm--my head's not in the best of places, for something like..."

He smirked and let out a breath, wondering if it would be better to go back to the hotel to talk or not. No, he didn't think he'd have been able to make it there himself. Thomas had been proud of himself this year, having strengthened his ability to not hide away from his problems or things that made him feel uncomfortable. It took a bravery of sorts that he'd never had, and he believed that Samantha deserved that sort of honesty from him.

"I ran into someone from my past on New Year's," he muttered, ears going red not only from the cold but the thoughts of his ex. Thomas ducked his eyes, feeling embarrassed and ashamed, "and it's got me---twisted."

Her eyebrows furrowed as she watched him and his reaction...it definitely wasn't what she was expecting when she caught up with him. She listened carefully as he spoke, though she couldn't help when her face fell slightly as he began talking about her showing up unexpectedly. She didn't know what to expect from him in the moment, but it definitely wasn't this.

When he began talking about someone from his past, she--frankly, she had no idea what to think of that. "Oh...I..." she let her words trail off, not really sure what to say. She felt hurt that he wasn't excited to see her. She was confused about this whole past issue coming up. She took a small step back, not sure if the distance would help or hurt the situation. Maybe coming to Istanbul wasn't the grand idea she had thought at first.

"I'm trying to be honest," Thomas blurted, immediately feeling terrible. He put his hands out, but then drew them back to him. He shouldn't be attempting to pull her in when all he wanted to do was lock himself away. "It's not---I didn't---"

But he did. He'd kissed that girl, Greta, and he still couldn't figure out why. There were rumors that something had been in their drinks of the night, as stories had been circulating about many abrupt and random kisses, but Thomas couldn't be sure. He didn't like not knowing what had possessed him to kiss a random girl, but it was no where near the dislike he had for himself, for believing that he was capable of it because of Regina's presence. Her words had been stupid and childish, but the rush of feelings seeing her caused sent Thomas' mind reeling. He had been riled up enough to do something rash, he knew it.

"I'm sorry," he said after a few seconds of simply staring at Samantha, feeling awkward, numb, and miserable, "It was a---really bad break up, and I...I haven't seen her in a long time and...I felt crazed and I'm still not...I thought that I was over----"

Thomas couldn't figure out what he wanted to say or how he wanted to say it. What did he want? He had wanted time to mull things over, to figure out if he was simply reacting to an onslaught of emotions he hadn't been expecting. He wasn't mad that Samantha was here, her arrival just made him feel worse about having these conflicting emotions when he should be enjoying how sweet his girlfriend was. He'd been expecting some time to himself and now he had no idea how to handle a damn thing.

He put his hands over his face, trying to figure things out in the next five seconds. Thomas took a deep breath, dropping his hands. "I'm sorry. I don't think---I'm being fair to you and that kills me." Was he crazy? He was crazy. He wasn't making any sense. "I feel like a mess."

Samantha wanted to be the comforting, considerate girlfriend. The dependable girl who was always there and--in that moment, she didn't know if she could do it at that moment. It wasn't the fact that he had run into an ex, because she knew those things happened. It was the fact that she knew nothing about his past up until this point (and she'd done what she could to stay away from finding out that from the media), and the way he was reacting right now.

She studied him for a moment before letting out a sigh. "I shouldn't have come, I'm--I'm sorry that I even..." she trailed off. She was upset, yes, but she didn't want to say something she would completely regret in the future. But there was a small part of her wondering why she even bothered. What should have been a grand surprise was turning out to be a huge mistake and she couldn't figure out a way to make that feeling stop. She took another step back, not wanting to pull away totally in case he needed someone to sit and listen, but she didn't want to stand around if her presence wasn't welcome.

He knew the right thing to do was to tell her that she was wrong, that she was welcome and he was glad that she came. It warmed Thomas' heart to know that someone out there cared for him enough to make this trip, to want to make him happy, but maybe he hadn't grown as much as he thought he had in this past year. He couldn't get over the desperate need to be alone with his thoughts and his problems, he couldn't get over the idea that maybe he'd been allowing himself to remain blissfully ignorant of some relationship issues he still had while under the gaze of this lovely girlfriend of his.

"It's not you..." he tried to start, but that felt cheap and foolish. Thomas pressed his hands to his eyes, wondering if whatever he'd been spiked with on New Year's Eve was still in his system. How could he be less than thrilled that his girlfriend had crossed the continent to watch him play quidditch? That meant something! That should have meant more than the crappy emotions he was feeling! Why wasn't he overwhelmed with joy? He was overwhelmed, for sure, but not in the way he should be.

"I'm obviously terrible at these types of things and----just because I need some time...to myself, doesn't mean that you can't...your friends are here so---I mean, if you don't want to stay then I'll---help you...get back." Defeated, Thomas shut his eyes and shook his head. He was the absolute worst and had no sense of courage to push through this. A Ravenclaw should not be allowed to question every aspect of his life when in a foreign country, and it should be a universal rule not to surprise one when doing so. It sent their entire world off its axis and unable to right itself.

"I just need some time, I'm sorry it had to be like this."

Samantha looked down at her feet, trying to push back the tears that felt like they were bubbling up in her. "Right. Of course." She bit back at him, not even wanting to look at him.

She squeezed her eyes shut, her hands on her forehead. "I--maybe that's what needs to happen, then." She didn't mean it to sound so ominous but if he couldn't even talk something over with her...she didn't know how to feel about it.

She stood there for a moment before backing away, her arms immediately wrapping around herself in a defensive position, hoping she could make it until she started walking away before her emotions got the better of her.
