It was an innocent enough question, but it was like a dam had burst in his head. What did he need? Thomas needed a time turner, he needed an obliviator, he needed to dig himself a hole and hide away like Uric the Oddball. He needed Julia to not be dead and he needed that baby to still be alive even though he had no bloody idea what to do next. Thomas pressed the heel of his hand into his eye as he tried to physically force back his tears, and shrugged his shoulders.

"I need to go back to the hospital," he said, nearly choking on the words. They'd sent him home to sleep, though it was more like Holly dragging him away before he could completely lose his mind. He hadn't been able to give them a telephone number to contact him, so who knew what had happened over these past few hours. Maybe the baby was gone too. "She's in the intensive care unit. They don't know if she's going to---"

He sucked in a breath, teeth chattering as he struggled against losing all composure. The pain and the guilt was overwhelming, and as his mind ran in circles he realized that even if he had shared the news earlier, he'd still be here, with Julia dead and the baby clinging onto life. The only difference would be that his friends and family would have had months to get attached and that excitement would've been doused with this miserable act of fate.

Thomas twisted his neck, still having been unable to look either of them in the eye.

"I was going to tell you today," he said, wondering why he was even bothering to struggle against this tidal wave of emotions. It was pointless, like most things felt right now. "I planned lunch, I had---a story. It was stupid." He let out a breath and looked up at the ceiling. "Oh, fuck, I can't---I have to make you her godparents before she dies because a kid needs--"

Tears finally fell and Thomas dropped his head again, covering his face with his hands, "I'm sorry." He let out the muffled cry and he wasn't sure to who.
