Where: Nora's place
When: Friday night
Status: In progress

Orion liked to think he knew his friends pretty well. He also prided himself on having good instincts, and being a decent judge of character. They were admirable traits, but every now and them they got him in trouble. He had a hard time keeping his opinion to himself, especially when someone asked for it - he sometimes said things people didn't want to hear, but most of the time he wound up being right in the long run. He also had a hard time sitting back and doing nothing when he got the feeling one of them was in trouble.

He had known Nora Peakes since Hogwarts; she and Max had always been his closest friends, so when she started making excuses not to see him, he had to wonder why. She had no reason to be avoiding him, and normally she would have been grateful for a reason to step away from a mountain of paperwork. Now she was saying she was far too busy, and had turned down his offer to help. He didn't want to be too pushy, but he wasn't going to be able to rest easy until he found out what was actually going on with her.

Maybe she wasjust overwhelmed because it was the Christmas season and her workload had doubled - if that was the case, he'd leave her alone - but if there was even the slightest chance that there was something else going on that she just wasn't telling him, he needed to be able to look her in the eyes as she told him she just had a lot of paperwork; that was the only way he'd really be able to determine whether or not she was lying.

He didn't give her any notice that he would be stopping by, seeing how she hadn't been willing to make any time for him, he decided to surprise her. He had a feeling it wouldn't be a good surprise, since she seemed to come up with every excuse to have him not drop by, but he knew something was wrong. He just knew it.

Lifting a hand to knock on her door, he adjusted the bag he had thrown over his shoulder, containing the gifts he had gotten for Nora while he had been in Norway, a plastic bag in his other hand. When she finally opened the door, he turned to look at her. She looked tired.

"Hey," he started, clearing his throat before lifting his hand to scratch at the back of his neck. "Sorry to just show up like this, but...you wouldn't let me buy you lunch, so I settled for dinner." He lifted up the plastic bag to draw attention to it. "I got your favorite."

Nora jolted out of bed, the darkness of her room enhancing the sound of the knocks. Her head had been stuck in the limbo of trying to fall asleep and dreams, and her coherency wasn't---what time was it? Who was knocking? She hadn't...Nora frowned, the light of her bedroom flickering on and putting the mess she was in into focus. She wasn't even sure why she'd gotten into bed, because the quiet, the darkness, the dreams...they all led back to that barn, and...

She winced, putting her hands to her head. Every time her thoughts drifted back to that afternoon, it was like her skull was stabbed with needles. She couldn't recall the memories, not exactly, not in order, but the feelings were still there. How scared she'd felt, how she'd been sure she was going to die.

Letting out a breath, Nora rubbed the arm that Nona had mended for her. She was sure that her friend had healed it perfectly, but shooting pains originated from where the break had occurred and it numbed her entire side. She jumped again at another knock and quickly jumped to her feet. Damn it, damn it.

"Coming!" she called out, searching for her robes. Nora pulled some decent looking clothes on and clambered to the door. She peered through the peephole and cursed. Orion was always so--ergh! A quick glance into a mirror showed that her hair was a complete disaster, so she hurriedly tied it into a braid. She opened the door and let out a breath.

"You didn't have to," she said honestly, feeling guilty for making him come out this way.

"Aye, but then we both would've gone hungry, and I just couldn't let that happen."

Orion took a look at her from where he was standing on the other side of the doorway, noticing what looked like a pillow mark on her cheek. A brow lifted as his eyes met hers. "You weren't sleeping, were you?" His tone was incredulous, and he checked his watch to make sure it wasn't later than he thought it was. "It's 8 o'clock on a Friday," he pointed out, as though she weren't already aware. It just didn't seem right. She was a young, active witch, there was no reason for her to be in bed at such an early hour. She didn't look ill, and while he knew paperwork to be tedious, he had a hard time believing it had exhausted her enough to put her in bed before ten.

"I had no idea you were such an old lady," he teased, smirking at her again. "I'll have to plan my impromptu visits before dawn from here on out." He was trying to joke around with her, lightening the mood a bit. Maybe then she'd feel more comfortable talking to him.

Nora flushed and shook her head.

"I fell asleep on the couch," she lied. Seeing as Orion was not going to leave, or more so the fact that she couldn't think of anything to say to make him leave without feeling bad, Nora pushed the door further open so that he could come in. She took a quick look at herself in the mirror on the wall and winced at the bags under her eyes. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a full night's sleep.

Shutting the door behind him, Nora led Orion to her small kitchen. She reached for her wand to start magically washing the dishes she'd left there, but she'd forgotten it back in the bedroom. "Er, hold on, I have to get--utensils."

She went to the sink to clean some off and hastily turned the water on. Without a second thought she stuck her hand under the stream of water and let out a yelp at how bloody hot it was. Of course, of course, it was her damaged arm, and the pain that shot through her---

"Well that was hot," she said through gritted teeth, keeping turned away from Orion.

Orion stepped through the threshold, immediately feeling the effects of the charms she had surely put up to keep her home warm. He placed the bag of food down onto the kitchen counter before making his way into the living room, the other bag of gifts being lowered down onto the couch that Nora had allegedly fallen asleep on. Once his hands were free, he worked on unraveling his scarf from around his neck, next taking off the wool coat he wore to keep warm.

When she let out a noise of pain, Orion rushed back into the kitchen to make sure she was alright. He winced as he realized she had burned herself, all too familiar with the sensation. He made his way over to her fridge, opening the freezer door to grab a few ice cubes, placing them into a paper towel before approaching her.

"Here, take this." He reached out to touch her arm in order to get her to turn towards her. Seeing how he was unaware that particular arm was injured, when she yelped again, Orion retracted his hand and his brows furrowed together at the extreme reaction.

"Bloody hell, Nor, how hot was that water?"
