Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:anya kalinnikov, holly troy

Backdated to before the WC matches!
WHO: Holly Troy and Anya Kalinnikov
WHAT: Besties exploring NYC!
STATUS: Unfinished because Cristina sucks at tagging things lately! Finishing in comments!

She loved her husband and son, but there was nothing like having a week to yourself to play quidditch and do whatever the hell you wanted, with whomever. Holly held a hand under the hotdog she was eating incase the loaded toppings slipped off, catching Anya’s eye.

“I can’t eat anything else for the rest of the day,” she said with a delighted smile. As seemingly unimpressed as Holly liked to portray herself, she had a mental list of the sights and things she needed to see and do while in New York. It was a different experience from other international events; at least here she knew the language and getting lost was only a mild problem.

Finishing off her lunch/dinner, Holly tossed the wrapper into a nearby trash can and wiped her hands. She stuffed her hands into her cloak pockets and looked around. She really wasn’t sure where they were going, that’s what exploring was all about, wasn’t it?

“I want to see the Bombers’ stadium,” she said, thinking about the local New York quidditch team. She’d purchased a hat, thinking it was their logo, but it turned out to be some muggle team, instead. “I heard it’s amazing, squeezed into the city.”

Anya let out a snort at her friend's declaration, pushing some of the relish that was on top of her hot dog away from the bun, sucking the juice off the tip of her finger. "I think it would be good for you to gain some weight. One of these days a strong wind is going to knock you off your broom," she teased, grinning in good humor before she took a bite of her food. It was such a simple thing, purchased from a man with a cart, but she let out a hum to show that she was enjoying it immensely. This definitely wasn't the healthiest thing to be eating, but she wouldn't feel guilty about it either. Anya was bigger than Holly, and not just in terms of height. Their positions on the pitch required them to be built differently - chasers like Holly were leaner because they needed to have great speed and dexterity, but beaters generally had more muscle definition since their position required them to not tire after swinging a heavy bat for hours and hours. Not to say Anya was bulky, because she definitely did not appear to be as strong as she actually was, but she would certainly not worry about the processed meat and bread going to her hips.

She was still chewing her food when they walked to the nearest trash can, wiping her mouth and hands one more time with the napkin before throwing that away, too. She swallowed what was left of her meal (really, that was more of a snack for her - she'd probably eat an actual meal for dinner) and turned to look at Holly. She reached into her back pocket to produce a pack of gum, taking a piece for herself before offering the pack to the other Quidditch player. The hot dog may have been delicious, but it left a bad taste in her mouth that she wasn't able to wash away with water.

"I am sure it can be arranged. We are playing for the World Cup; we are the best of the best, dushen'ka. To deny us anything would be absurd," she said with a grin, nudging Holly with her hip. She was in a good mood, even though stress had been eating away at her since she found out she was going to be playing for the cup. When she found out she was going to be captain, there was euphoria for a while, and then the stress came back with a vengeance. Not that she'd ever let it show, of course.

Holly nodded in agreement; she was sure that she and Anya could do whatever the hell they wanted during their time in New York, even if they weren't here for the World Cup. She and Anya had been quite the domineering duo for a long while now, and while Holly's married life had hindered their ventures out into the world, it did not disrupt their intimidating presence. Perhaps they would hit a few of the local bars to see what the whole fuss about the 'city that never sleeps' was about.

Though...

"Should we save something for you and Broadmoor to explore on your own?" Holly said cheekily, tossing a piece of gum into her mouth. She chewed noisily to add to the obnoxiousness of her question, though she was intrigued by the little journal conversation that she and the Wanderer had had. Broadmoor was quite the looker, but more than that, he was the first bloke outside of her teammates that Holly had seen Anya talk to in ages. They were best mates, this was most definitely a reasonable topic of conversation!

It was only a time before Kendall came up in conversation, considering she hadn’t put their conversation under any wards to keep it private. She had nothing to hide, though there were certainly some people who seemed to frown upon the idea of her speaking to someone who played for another team. It wasn’t any of their business, but this wasn’t a teammate she was speaking to. Still, she smirked at the new subject they had landed on, looping her arm through Holly’s as they walked, slipping her hands into her pockets to keep them warm.

“Oh I’m sure Broadmoor and I will have no difficulty finding something of interest, but I appreciate you looking out,” she replied with another smirk, stopping once they had reached the next block, waiting for a chance to walk once they were no longer at risk of being struck by one of the wheeled machines that kept zooming by. She was definitely baiting her friend, making her ask more questions to get to the bottom of why she had been speaking to Kendall so frequently.
