MYCROFT...sorry he's been bugging me :[
"Oh, good, my case died in a suspicious bout of food poisoning," Berkeley Doge said with a peppy voice. Tomas Booth laughed loudly and snatched the folder away, waving it in his fellow aurors face, "This does mean I have the afternoon off, yes?"

"Yeah, yeah, get out of here," Booth said with another laugh, slapping Berk's shoulder with the folder before disappearing through the cubicles. He could've done a jig--it was incredibly rare to simply be dismissed for the day, and even though he knew Amelia was off being the 'saving the world one court battle at a time' wizengamot member, Berkeley still made his way toward the law offices, knowing that his brother Mycroft was coming back from a hearing. It seemed that being married with a dog, along with the busy schedules aurors and wizengamot members had normally led to very little time between brothers, especially when said brother was also an auror.

He spotted Mycroft heading down the corridor, back to him, and Berkeley snuck up on him quickly, using his top rated sneaky maneuvers to surprise him.

"Bro, bro, bro," Berk yammered, capturing Mycroft in a headlock from behind, pulling him around a corner "Let's get out of here, come onnnnnn."

There was a reason Mycroft had been coming out of the law offices and getting attacked by his brother was not on any sort of list that would include the reason why. There was also the matter of not sneaking up on an auror in his territory. Admittedly, Mycroft should've been paying a bit more attention to his surroundings as to not get put into a headlock, but he'd been focused on the letter of findings in the folder in his hands and so Berk's attack was definitely a surprise, not having heard what he was yammering on about.

With a short yell, Mycroft pulled out of the headlock and shoved his attacker against the wall, his wand out and pressed against the base of his throat. It took a moment before he recognized his brother and Mycroft quickly put his wand away, a confused expression on his face. He shoved Berk in the shoulder, not as hard as he normally would've, but he was trying to get his bearings back.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" he shouted, sending his brother a nasty glare before bending over to pick up his discarded files, huffily. "I was doing something you prat."

Oh, Mycroft. Always so jumpy. Berk rubbed his shoulders and watched Mycroft carefully, hands behind his back and shoes scuffing the ground as if a child caught in the cookie jar. Really. After all these years his brother should be used to random attacks of headlocks, honestly.

"Are...you still doing something?" Berk asked in an almost sing-song voice, coming around to stand in front of Mycroft's discarded pile of parchment. If he left his brother to pick up his belongings, it gave him more time for his heart to stop racing and all that rubbish that comes with being startled. See, he was considerate.

"Beeecaauuuuuse I have the afternoon off. So I could so say we found something to do and had to run off and...not actually do said thing I thought up that we could do."

"I'm at work, so yes, I'm still doing something," Mycroft grumbled, sorting through his papers and sticking them back in the file, making sure to have the findings letter on top, because he wanted to read through it again as soon as he got back to his desk. Hearings sucked and were nerve wracking and having a Berk Attack right afterwards was not really the way to put him in a good mood.

"Why do you have the afternoon off? I thought you were working on the Shiver case?" Mycroft stood up and glowered at his brother some more. What was the point of having a job if you got afternoons off and stuff? "What stuff could you tell Moody that would make him think we're not just sluffing off?"

"He died," Berk said happily, snatching a roll of parchment out of Mycroft's hands and unrolling it to take a quick gander. "Food poisoning. And I'll tell Moody that I went to check out the scene to see if it was a murder, but Booth told me that his bird's already got the body in the lab, so I'll tell Moody that Booth didn't tell me, and Booth has the memory of a goldfish so he won't remember actually telling me."

Berk rapped his own head with his knuckles, handing the parchment back over before Mycroft could snatch at it and end up ripping it.

"Steel trap, my brother. I could say that I wanted to take my partner down to the scene with me, but if you'd rather keep your head stuck in paperwork, then be my guest." They'd come up in front of the lifts, and Berk leaned on the space between the two, finger hovering over the button as he waited for Mycroft's answer.

"More like a mouse trap," Mycroft grumbled, scratching the side of his nose and hesitating a moment or two. He really did want to finish a few reports so he could relax a little this week, at least on the paper work. But hanging out with Berk sounded a lot more fun... at least it held the promise of something more fun.

He waffled a bit before pointing at Berk, "You're paying for food."

The button was pushed before the sentence was over, and Berkeley was nodding happily. Oh, oh good. He really needed to get out of this place, and was looking forward to bickering with Moody about leaving tomorrow. Of course he'd say he dragged Mycroft and that his brother had no idea; sometimes Berkeley knew he did things to cause a ruckus It was the dumb Gryffindor in him, he supposed. But all the same, it was fun, and if they auror department really needed them, they wouldn't be too hard to find.

As the lift arrived, Berkeley hopped in and began to babble off,

"So, we've got to go to Hogsmeade next week," he started, "because our little brother is in need of our assistance. You see, there is a bird that is making him act like a schoolgirl, and he has absolutely no idea what to do about it."

Elphias' little 'incident' would come out, soon enough (because none of them could really keep a secret), but there were some things you silently asked your brother to keep to themselves, and Berkeley was sure this would be one of them.

Mycroft couldn't help the twitch of his eye, Berk seemed a little too excited than normal 'let us just skip the last few hours of work' and belatedly wondered if it was going to be such a good idea. Maybe he would come in after Berk tomorrow and hope that Moody had already latched on to his brother and wouldn't bother with him...hm. Unlike Berk, Mycroft wasn't as willing to cause messes at work just to see what would happen with people. He loved his job - not that Berk didn't, they were excellent on the field together, it was just the office bit, with the paperwork and hundreds of horrible people it had to go through. But Mycroft liked that part of the job too, and that made him a little weirder, but he liked having all his reports in order and his quills lined up by usage and it just made the 'real' work a lot easier when they actually had reports and knowledge of what was going on to refer to than just running in blindly.

"We? Not for work, I hope," Mycroft was perfectly amiable to the hit wizards, they did a good job, but patrolling Hogsmeade during a Hogwarts weekend was not the job for an auror. Ugh, he hated teenagers, they were so snotty and mean and totally didn't understand the whole 'respect' thing yet. Except for Elphias, but he was an eighty year old trapped in a teenaged shaped body.

Mycroft perked up at that last bit and raised his eyebrow. "School girl? How so? And what are we supposed to do about it? I don't think I have advice to give him on skirt lengths. Plus, I really don't think he has the knees to pull a skirt off."

Berkeley let out a loud laugh, jumping before the lift stopped to feel that odd sensation of weightlessness. He shook his head and let his brother step out first, before knocking him in the shoulder. He sent a wink toward Bertha at the public relations desk, and kept on moving.

"You're a dope," he said with another chuckle, "but, her name is Phoebe, and she has Elphias acting like a schoolgirl, as in, being silly and tripping all over himself."

He let out another laugh at the thought of his littlest brother in a skirt before pulling a folder out of his inside cloak pocket.

"Here's what I've dug up on her."

Mycroft groaned as Berk jumped in the lift, his stomach doing a flop or two. He dug his elbow into Berk's side because he absolutely hated when his brother did that. It make him feel sick and gross inside. "Oh, a girl?"

Mycroft took the papers and looked up at Berk like he was a little insane. Which of course he was. But that didn't mean like he should be doing background checks on their baby brother's girlfriends. Not that they hadn't done it on each other before, but this seemed a little out of place on a sixteen year old girl. Mycroft read it though, mumbling along to what he was reading, "Healers... oh, that's interesting, she's related to Amos. This looks good... why did you show this to me? It's not like shes on any of our lists for wanted or anything."

Berk shrugged, rubbing his side, "Eh, I figure Elphias won't be able to talk to us, at--er, all, so we'd have to figure it out ourselves. Not like I found out her O.W.L.s or anything."

Lies, she got ten. Smart girl, quidditch player, good family. Elphias knew how to pick them, even though he didn't know he knew how to pick them. Thank God his littlest brother's first girlfriend wasn't some psychotic street peddler like they'd all been worried it would be (what, they could be selling some fancy encyclopedia of all the world's charms).

"At any rate, he ran out of the room when she came in, so clearly," he pushed a door open, "he is in need of our help."

"Liar," Mycroft said without looking up from the information, following Berk's lead as usual. It was rare when his brother let him actually walk into something on purpose. Generally. Hm, this girl sounded okay, but seriously, who would name their child Hippocrates? They might need a little more checking into, that was kind of demented.

"He ran out of the room when she came in? How does that signify that he's sweet on her? Wouldn't that mean that he doesn't like her? I know I run from the room when Umbridge is around."

"Okay, she got ten, and she's on the quidditch team--Ravenclaw's gonna take it---oh, oh you know."

Berk skidded to a halt, making sure to move out of Mycroft's way before plopping down onto a bench; they looked as if they were in deep discussion, no one would bother the Doge brothers while in deep discussion. Of course it was usually about what toppings to get on their pizza but no one else needed to know that.

"We should send him a quidditch handbook, so he could at least look like he's making an---he ran out because she made him feel funny," Berk's tangent was immediately interrupted by Mycroft's question, and he responded with his eyebrows high, "Can you believe that? The dope got a stonker and he runs out of the room instead of doing something about it."

See, secrets didn't last long in this family.

Mycroft sat down next to his brother, scratching his temple and trying to digest what his brother was saying. "Wait, so, she... he did... and ..." Mycroft looked up at Berk, a little alarmed.

"Do you think he thinks he's gay?" he asked suddenly, shifting a bit so he faced Berk a little more. "I mean, clearly he's not if she's giving him horn, but maybe he ran out because he's you know, confused. Why else would he run out? I mean a," Mycroft made a rude gesture with his hands, "girl touching you and you run out? He's seventeen and never had a girlfriend. You know how Ravenclaws are. Those Greek historians were a little liberal with the poufery, if you know what I mean."
