Emmeline did not want to be there. She had no desire to be in the Order house, she had no desire to be near any of these people, she had absolutely no desire to be---to be--
She entered the kitchen because there was no where else to go, but it was the furthest away from where everyone was most miserable. She could ignore Prewett for now, because if anyone decided to be annoying, Emmeline had the feeling that no one else would notice if she blew their head straight off. She was so tired, so frustrated, so--she hated that she hadn't been good friends with Marlie, she hated that the last good time she'd had with the girl was Wizard of Oz, because the last thing that really stuck out to Emmeline were the older Gryffindor girls tearing the mickey out of her after the stupid gossip rag.
How stupid was that? She'd been quietly annoyed at them since school ended, and now it all seemed so ridiculous and petty that Emmeline couldn't believe she actually had bothered to care in the first place. The Order had been hit, and it had been hit hard. This was the start of something terrible, and Emmeline's quick working mind would not slow down enough to stop her from thinking: who's next?
Of course her thoughts flipped to Caradoc, he was the most obvious. Most of her reasoning behind darting her eyes away from Dedalus (though he didn't seem to be keen on making eye contact with anyone either) was to keep the flashing thoughts of Caradoc being discovered at bay. She forced them away (oh, yes, she was definitely going to pick up some Occlumency books after Caradoc's little stunt at the party) and pressed her fingers to her temple, trying to force herself to stay up without getting strung out on coffee and annoying everyone.
This needed to be over. Someone needed to get a time turner, go back to last night, and save the McKinnons. That was the only way the Order was going to be able to jump back.
