Entry tags:miranda frobisher, moses dodderidge

Who: Miranda Dodderidge and Moses Dodderidge (maybe the others later? Closed for now)
What: Terrible news
Where: Dodderidge Kitchen
When: This morning

Who ever invented dirty dishes should go to Hell.

Miranda sighed loudly as the bubbles in the sink rose over the edge; she had no intention of stopping them, as they were the best part of the job. She normally didn't mind doing the dishes, especially since she became a legal witch, but when her parents punished her to chores without her wand because of the rooms she's been sneaking into with Ralph---well. Life was hard in the Dodderidge household these days.

"And that was the latest from Celestina Warbeck, 'Scourgify my Heart'! And here's Ron Burgundy with your news--ten to the hour, every hour!"

"Uuuuugh," Miranda groaned, pulling her hands out of the water to hurry over to the wireless and change the station. She had a reputation for being obnoxiously fickle with her music; commercials and news breaks should not be allowed to ruin her tunes, seriously. What was the point of being a music station, if the music wasn't 24/7?

"---the Dark Mark appeared a little after midnight over the Swansea home---"

She stopped in the middle of the kitchen, hands dripping water to the floor. Wait, wait, Swansea? That was--

"---aurors are not sure if the family was in the house at the time--"

What family! What house, what---Miranda skidded across the tiled floor to grab the wireless, pulling it up to her ear to make sure she didn't miss a detail. There was a fire, they were recapping--a fire, and the dark mark went up over midnight, and the aurors were reluctant to say that there were any survivors.

"--if you have any information on the whereabouts of the Merridew family or evidence---"

"MUM!"

The shriek had to have been heard all the way into muggle London, down to King's Cross, all the way up the tracks to Hogwarts. The wireless crashed to the ground as Miranda's hands lost all flexible ability due to their rapid shaking. Her feet slipped on the water she'd been dripping onto the floor and with the quick way she had turned to frantically find her parents, she lost her balance and grabbed onto the table cloth, pulling all the plates and utensils down to the floor with her.

She couldn't think, that couldn't be right, she could not have actually heard that name---it was all in her head, it was all made up, it was all just--just---the sink began to overflow onto the floor and Miranda couldn't even think about how she was getting soaked, sitting there on the floor, absolutely terrified and numb--

"DAD! DAAAAAD!"

Moses had been working on some paperwork in the dining hall of the building, trying to get all caught up and ready to move back into work in the field. Unfortunately, he would have to start this set over again, because Miranda had shrieked so loud that he jumped, scratched his quill across (and through) the parchment, and across the freshly washed tablecloth. Bloody hell, and she wondered why she always had so many chores to do. He pulled his wand out to do a quick reparo on the paper, maybe an ink cleaning charm when the smashing of plates and glasses wafted out to him.

What the hell was she thinking?! Oh, mum was going to throw a fit when she found out about--and then there was another shout. Ugh, he wasn't in the mood to put up with whatever she had to scream about. Little did he know that it bore quite a bit of importance to not only his younger sister, but also to the rest of their family. Rubbing his forehead, he let out a weary sigh. Their parents had put him in charge for the afternoon, handing her confiscated wand over to him as a result. He grabbed it from the table and hobbled into the kitchen but didn't get much past the door. "MIRANDA DAISY DODDERIDGE, WHAT THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU DOING ON THE FLOOR?" he asked in shock, not even processing things enough to turn off the water.

She was in the middle of shrieking for her mother when Moses came into sight, and Miranda wasted no time in scrambling to her feet with much difficulty. The water and the forks and glass and everything made just moving difficult. The tears cascading out of her eyes hurt the situation as well, and Miranda had no idea how she actually made it across the kitchen to fling herself at her brother without falling and breaking her skull open.

"MOSES!" she choked out, her ability to shriek presumably gone. Pressing hard into her brother, now that she had managed the mission of getting to him, her mind shot back to why she was crying, and hysterical blubbering escaped her, knees feeling weak and all of that crazy dramatics you hear in the stories---Miranda had never thought she'd ever, ever have a reason to have her knees give out, or--or faint (because she did feel like that was close to happening now), but---but---

He'd promised her, he had promised her he would not do this to her ever again---"Moses!"

Bloody hell! His legs, despite Miranda's light weight, could not honestly hold her at the moment. Not when everything was under worked and sore just from walking around all day. He held back a grunt as he held her up anyways, letting out a slow sigh (in attempt to hide the annoyed edge). "Miranda, what on earth is going on?" he asked slowly, trying to figure out how to get her to a chair without both of them falling down. He'd leave the dishes and water on the floor for now, and with a quick flick of her wand the water was turned off.

"C'mon, I need you to pull it together and walk for me, D. Just to the nearest table," he said softly, hoping to calm her down a bit. He was not good with the blubbery crying business. Never was, never would be.

Her legs had given out and she couldn't hold herself up. Miranda wanted to snap this at Moses, tell him to stop being stupid for thinking that she could actually make herself do anything but crumble to the ground in hysterics, but even her usually natural scolding ways were being shoved away by the panic her mind was in.

As Miranda dropped down to the floor (if Moses came with her, she didn't notice), she let out long, painful groans, her body bending to press her face into her lap and just--just---

The didn't know where the family was. They didn't know where Ralph was. Miranda had heard the stories, she had heard about those families that just vanished, never to be seen again---she'd heard about those families that vanished, and then were found in horrible piles of---

"He--he---" Miranda couldn't possibly say this, how could her brother make her say it? How--how---how could she---she couldn't, she couldn't.

Sitting up suddenly, Miranda's blurry eyes searched for the Daily Prophet that she'd torn the comics out of this morning---it had to be in there, right? It---it had been sitting there all day and--Miranda pushed forward and grabbed her wand with a huff and somehow managed to summon the paper. Flipping frantically, it didn't take long for her to find the article, and a new wave of hysterical tears burst out of her and her sobbing intensified as she threw the paper at her brother, pulling into herself again.
