She felt wrong for thinking this, but Mackenzie had seriously been hoping Sebastian would be asleep, or not in the lounge at all once she had finished her shift. That was horrible, wasn't it? She didn't even want to talk to her husband, there was no doubt about that now and... she pulled her lips back painfully, refusing to finish the thought. She was tired, it was late. Her mind was in no state to make any brash decisions concerning the status of her and Sebastian's marriage yet. Doing that would include actual communication.
Which was going to happen, because as soon as Mackenzie turned the corner, she saw Sebastian sitting in the waiting room, smiling away. The sight almost made her want to vomit. Not in the way that he repulsed her, but simply because there was no more avoiding at this point, and that thought alone made her feel sick to her stomach. She had been feeling sick for a while now, no doubt because of all of this, which didn't surprise her. Dealing with stress had never been one of her strong suits.
"I'm sorry you had to wait this long," Mackenzie started softly, focusing down at the ground. While she did feel bad that he had been waiting here for a while, her sympathy only went so far. Apparently, he had been telling every healer that had walked by who he was, and what he was waiting for. It didn't take long for every single person she knew telling her where Sebastian was, and asking if she wanted them to take her shift.
