Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Vinnlie McGudge, and if you don't know who that is, GTFO
What: Halloween happiness!
Where: Their living room!
When: Tonight after trick-or-treating lolol

Vinny couldn’t remember the last time he’d been trick-or-treating. It had to be before Hogwarts, and even then he hadn’t liked it so much. Something about going up to strangers and asking for candy, but! Marlie seemed to make everything fun and had convinced him to go out with her. Donning the Lone Ranger’s mask (because he didn’t feel like being mobbed by quidditch fanatics on his night out with his girlfriend), they made quite the cute pair of cowboys, and got many a laugh from wizards, witches, and muggles (oh yes, they’d gone there) when they opened the door.

The night had been long, but finally the two got back to their house and dropped their candy bags onto the couch. Marlie had gone to the bathroom, or the bedroom, who knew what women needed to do after hours of trick-or-treating, and it seemed like looking at himself in his ridiculous costume caused something along the lines of the epiphany.

He wanted to do this every year. He wanted Marlie to drag him to do silly things he normally wouldn’t do for the rest of his life, Vinny wanted Marlie to be in his life for the rest of his, the rest of hers, he wanted to marry her, and it felt like their night out had made him realize that he would do anything and everything for this girl.

It was a good thing he’d had the ring since this past summer, or else he would’ve just blurted it to her and been terribly unromantic.

By the time Marlie had gotten back (women sure did take a long time getting ready for whatever it was), Vinny had jammed the ring box to the bottom of her candy bag, and was sitting quite slouched on one end of the couch, trying to look as tired and nonchalant as possible, eating a sugar quill.

As a child, Marlie always got extremely excited about dressing up. Halloween was a big deal at the McKinnon household, and her mum always sewed her the prettiest costumes and guhh, trick or treating held so many fun memories for her. So for this Halloween, she had the brilliant idea of reliving her childhood in their extremely cute cowboy outfits. It had taken them quite awhile to actually get out the door - because Marlie kept pawing at Vinny... what can she say, he made a really sexy cowboy. They had gone to so many houses, both wizarding and Muggle, and although they had gotten their fair share of odd looks, they had gotten their candy, and when they returned, feet aching, bags full, Marlie darted off to the bedroom to remove her hat and her costume, because well, it was kind of uncomfortable, but as far as she was concerned, Vinny could be a cowboy all night long. Teeheehee.

She rejoined him on the couch, flopping down besides him before giving him a quick kiss before holding up her bag. "Look at this stuff! We've got so much candy!" Grinning widely, she rummaged through her bag. "Ice mice, Honeydukes, something called Hershey's, urgh - a blood pop, and a..."

Her hand hit the bottom of the bag, where she encountered a small box. Pulling it up, she paused. A jewelry box? Opening it her, mouth proceeded to drop open in equal parts astonishment and pure joy. Ohhhhhh VINNY. "And a... diamond ring?"

He was really, really not expecting her to get through the bag that fast. Like, really. Vinny stiffened greatly and kicked off his shoes to give him some more time to think because it seemed like everything with Marlie went really, really fast. And that was okay with him! It was different, but it was okay! He liked going fast with her, because it always led somewhere nice and fun and happy and Vinny had come to learn that letting Marlie take control could only lead to good, wonderful things.

Yes, okay.

“If you want it, of course,” he said, tossing his hat across the room and sitting up, twisting to face Marlie. Now was the time to get things back to the traditional sense, though finding a diamond ring on the bottom of a candy bag was probably the best trick-or-treat gift anyone could ever have received, especially when it looked like this. Really, he was quite proud of himself.

Vinny took her hand and the box, grinning and maybe blushing a bit because the thought of Marlie actually saying no crossed his mind. They were both really young, both at the start of amazing careers (well, if he could get traded, that is---bad, bad captain!), and he would wait forever for Marlie to walk down the aisle with him, to be honest. Right now, though, it felt like the perfect time to tell her this.

“You don’t have to say yes, and if you do—which I hope you do,” he cracked a sideways grin, “I want you to know that I will wait for however long you want. Ten days. Weeks. Months, years, Marlie---I want to be with you forever, I want to marry you because…because you make me smile, you make me smile when there’s nothing to smile about. Will you marry me?”

Marlie, like every other girl, had more than thought about her dream wedding, down to every single detail, to the songs she'd have and the dress that, naturally, her mother would design. But those thoughts were mere passing dreams, as she never imagined that she'd get married at a young age, like her best friends. Besides, she had her career ahead of her, a successful acting career that she had managed to establish in a relatively short amount of time.

But if she had to choose someone to spend the rest of her life with, it would definitely have to be Vinny. He made her happy, he made her laugh, he understood her... If she had to come home to someone for the rest of her days, it would have to be Vinny, because he was her Vinnybee, he was... He was the one that she loved, and could love, for the rest of her life.

She stared at the ring for a few more seconds, before a huge, blissful grin crossed her face. "Yes!" she exclaimed, for after all, was there any other answer? After the most beautiful engagement ring she had ever seen was slipped on her left hand, the tiny girl launched sideways at Vinny in a fierce half tackle, half hug.
