Tomas + Avis, 1965
He knew that hair anywhere. Tomas loosened his tie and hurried his pace to catch up toward the Hufflepuff that was making a beeline to--of course, the library. When wasn't she in the library? It's like she lived there, or something! Who wanted to live in a library, anyway? It was stuffy and there was no where good to sleep (and believe you me, Tomas Booth has tried).

The sixth year really should find better things to occupy his time with besides torturing Avis Tremaine, but it was just so much fun. Plus, quidditch practice had been canceled and that would just throw off his whole schedule if he decided to fill the void with something as silly as school work.

"Tremaine," he let out, catching up to her and with a swift move popped her book from under her arm and into the air, where he swiftly caught it. Tomas began to walk backwards in front of her as he read the cover, eyebrows going high, "'Hogwarts, a History'? Again. It hasn't changed much since yesterday."

"Yes, well," while she couldn't contend that the book definitely hadn't changed in the past day (Merlin, she hadn't read it just yesterday it wasn't her fault if he was completely incapable of measuring time in any constant way) she didn't want to admit that he was right, "It wouldn't, being a book. Shouldn't you be throwing an unnecessarily large ball at someone's head right now?"

Not that she kept track of what he did or anything. No, because that would imply that she actually liked him. Which she didn't. At all. Avis frowned, surging forward to try and grab her book back from him ... and failing miserably, of course.

She really made this far too easy. All Tomas had to do was keep his arm straight up in the air, and there you go. Anti-Tremaine wards. Without magic! Beat that.

"How many times do I have to tell you," he said with a loud sigh and a dramatic roll of his eyes, "I'm a Keeper. I barely throw the quaffle around! I catch it."

He must have explained quidditch to her at least a dozen times this school year. Mostly through shouting matches in the courtyard, but you would think that something would have sunk in by now. Wasn't she supposed to be smart? Prefect and all that? Clearly she had some sort of photographic memory, that kept her on the top of the class.

Easy? Easy? He was so utterly frustrating! Of course she knew that he was a Keeper and that he barely threw the quaffle around at all -- did he not grasp the concept of sarcasm? Perhaps it was too hard for his tiny little mind to grasp.

She crossed her her arms over her chest after she'd given up on trying to get her book back from him. She'd just have to bore him until he left her alone. "Some of us have better things to do than waste our talented minds on sports."

Not that she thought he had a talented mind. Or that she'd be any good at Quidditch.

"So if you'll excuse me ... I need to get to the library."

"You think I have a talented mind?"

His grin was ridiculously wide and Tomas had practiced the annoying eyebrow-waggle so very much that he was sure he could win an award for it. She thought he was talented, and that was just another point in the win column for Tomas. He didn't know if Avis had any idea that this was all one big game to him? If he could fluster her enough to storm off or, hell, even curse at him, then it'd be a damn good day.

No real reason for playing this game, just that it was a helluva lot of fun.

"What other talents do I got, hm?"

Oh, for God's sake. She furrowed her brows and huffed, rolling her eyes. Now she'd done it, he wasn't going to give until she was good and flustered. She knew that was what he was after but that didn't mean that she wanted to give in so easily. Avis took a deep breath and then flashed him a smirk.

"Oh, you know. Enduring as many blows to the head as you've had in your little Quidditch game, the fact that you've somehow managed to pass potions ... honestly, the mere idea that you can stay standing with your ego the size that it is embarrassingly miraculous."

Tomas pressed his palm to his heart, completely wounded by her words. Oh, he was so distraught and upset that Frizzymaine (see what he did there?) thought he had a big ego. What was wrong with that? You needed an ego to be the best, you couldn't let jerks keep you down or admit that you're second to someone. That would just be dumb. And mess things up.

"I managed to pass potions because I need it for the auror program, so of course I did," he said, tilting his chin upward. Anyone who'd ever met Tomas from his first year, when he'd first found out about aurors, knew that it was what he was going to leave Hogwarts and do.

Just like his dad, the police officer, except he would track down the super bad wizards and protect the innocent and all that rot.

"Oh, congratulations. You passed a course -- I know it must have been difficult for you, Booth. I'm sure the ickle firstie that you beat into writing your papers was thrilled for you." Except that she knew he was passing them to get into the Aurors program, and maybe she wanted to as well ... but she hadn't told him that.

No matter how mean a person she was to him outwardly, she knew that he was a boy and that according to the psychology book that her mum had given her, boys were stupid and didn't like other people challenging their future hopes and dreams. So she would keep this to herself in order not to crush his fragile, manly dreams.
