The Hufflepuff Common Room!
Tim was doing his very best to be sneaky. He felt like tiptoeing around, but if anyone saw him do it he might get embarrassed and made fun of for the rest of his life. In his arms were a bundle of snacks and treats from the kitchens (what upstanding Hufflepuff didn't have a house-elf food source to help them through those tough exam weeks?), and a few bottles of butterbeer were hanging between his fingers, lighting clanging. Oh boy. He only had one more flight of stairs to go before he was Scot-free and when he finally reached the painting, Tim let out a sigh of relief. Home.

Or, at least, his home for ten months out of the year. Well---okay, this was home

The still-life painting seemed to tease Tim for a moment, not opening to him and he had to shake his thoughts away from his mini, five minute adventure to remember how to access the dorms. "Oh. I'm Timothy Greengrass, 6th year Hufflepuff. I have snacks."

He waited for the painting to determine if his statement was true, and as he indeed was a sixth year Hufflepuff, it shifted to the side and allowed him through. The Common Room was brightly lit, even at a somewhat late hour, and student lounged on the cozy, over-sized arm chairs. Most of them waved a hello to Tim, and he grinned, making a beeline to an empty couch.

ooc: Fluid time thread, open to Hufflepuffs (and their various guests) of all years!

GIDEON SEPTEMBER 77

For such a smart person, her boyfriend could be very stubborn sometimes. All she wanted to do was show him the Hufflepuff Common Room! It had been her home for six years now and therefore was just as important to her just as Gideon. Sharing important things with each other was what couples did, and this should be no exception!

And if they had enough time to kill, there could always be a tour of her room.

But Gideon was being difficult. As soon as she had slipped what she had planned, he had immediately stopped in his tracks like a piece of stone, simply refusing to go any further.

"Come on, Gideon," Gleny whined as she vainly attempted to pull him down the corridor. There wasn't as much pulling as him standing perfectly still as she tugged on his arm with all her might. This was not exactly a well-thought out plan; he was a very strong Quidditch player for Ravenclaw while she avoided going up stairs and lifting heavy objects at all costs. She hadn't thought he would be so against this!

"It's not a big deal, Hufflepuff doesn't care!" she huffed and tried again to unroot him. No such luck.

"I'm not a dog you can't pull me along like I'm on a leash!" Gideon leaned back pulling his arm where she had a grip on it. It wasn't that he didn't want to go with her, he just didn't want to go there. It was. Well. Hufflepuff. It was okay to date her and even marry her, because Gleny was a Hufflepuff but she wasn't... the house. She was the best of the bunch and Gideon would much rather spend time in his dorm with her than with some of the other students. Okay, maybe it was bad of him but it wasn't like he was a prefect or Head Boy, he didn't have to be nice to anyone. But more than anything, Gideon was worried he would look stupid, most of the Hufflepuffs he knew were short and from how it had been described, Gideon was sure he would hit his head on something.

"Look, lets just go back to the tower, I left a book I need up there." Which was sort of true, he had homework he could be doing, but since deciding that Quidditch was his path for life, the need to study all the time and be stressed about it had lessened. "So, lets, just go up there okay?"

Gleny let her grip on Gideon go as quickly as he had finished his first statement. Well that wasn't very nice. She didn't think she was treating him like a dog. Just... a person that needed a little pull to do something he didn't exactly want to do. She had just assumed he was nervous about going in, but he must know how much this meant to her! It was just a little---

What! Go back to--- so she could go to the Ravenclaw Tower practically whenever he wanted, but the second Gleny wanted to bring him to Hufflepuff it was preposterous! That didn't seem very fair. Now feeling a bit cross, she folded her arms across her chest and sucked in her cheeks.

To be quite honest (to herself, because she would never say this to Gideon), Gleny found many Ravenclaws to be stuck up and snotty. Therefore, she usually did not look forward to her boyfriend's suggestions of going up to that tower to spend time, or even worse, study. Not to mention she was liking having Gideon to answer the riddle for both of them less and less. She could never figure them out in time, or at all, and in a couple of cases Gideon even had to come out just to help her solve it and--- it was embarrassing! And tiring to deal with when it wasn't even her house.

"I don't want to go to your Common Room," she spoke deliberately, digging her hands deep within her crossed arms.

Miss Gia! Octoberish, 1977?

It was the first of October. And since it was the first of October, that meant he and Giada had been together exactly one month (as of 10:58 this morning, to be alarmingly specific—it was a memorable occasion, which was why he could, in fact, be so alarmingly specific). Derek hadn't been in a lot of what one might call "long-term" relationships, so this was a strange yet fascinating benchmark for him. And, according to his housemates and a select other friends (bloody—all right, and his mother), the first month anniversary was always supposed to be special. So, Derek had done his damnedest to make it a memorable evening. Having just finished a little midnight picnic on the grounds (where he felt very smug upon producing a bottle of elderberry wine to accompany it), the two were in the process of sneaking back inside the castle. But Derek had a little detour on his mind that he'd only just mentioned to his girlfriend of one month.

"No one's going to be there," he said in his best suave, but wheedling voice as he started slowly in the direction of the Hufflepuff common room. "I promise, it's going to be fine!"

Derek was a good boy—he'd been raised right by his mum, after all. He knew he was supposed to treat a lady like a lady. But that didn't mean he wasn't going to try awfully hard to get a good, vigorous snogging session in.

"Just come with me—spend a little of tonight together?"

And really good, vigorous snogging session always broke a rule or two.

It had been quite silly of her to wait until her seventh and final year at Hogwarts to finally give in to the very strong and flirtatious advances of one Derek Dobbs. While Giada wasn't as experienced as some of the other girls in her year when it came to dating, she certainly knew how to play the game, and how to flirt. Oh, was she a flirt. She was nice, and sweet, but she knew exactly what she should say to make a boy do, well! Whatever she wanted! Which sounded terrible, and she would immediately mentally scold herself for it, but it was hard to stay mad at herself when Rachel was so approving of her measures.

But now, Derek had been her boyfriend for exactly one month and a few hours, and it had been quite possibly the best month of her life. She'd loved being around him when they weren't dating, and now that they were? It was like their lovely times together had been intensified by a thousand---a million! Now she got to kiss him when he was being exceptionally adorable (which was just about every minute of the day), and she got to make all the other girls jealous (Bess Zeller hated her, she was sure), which was always a plus.

Even with how happy she was with Derek, Giada still had some concerns and---sneaking out of the castle had taken some talking to, and now to risk getting caught even more, he wanted to go into his dorms! Not only---did that mean something? Other than---you know. Giada loved to snog, very much, but one didn't just snog in a boy's dorm, that was for sure. Giada never brought her boyfriends back to Ravenclaw, and she and Rachel often gossiped about the girls who were lured into their significant other's dorm...she did not want to be the one talked about!

"Derek," she let out, not struggling against his tugging hand but feeling her nerves jump all over, "It's already so late, if we get caught later...." Giada bit her lip, trying her best to pout her way out of this.

That pout drove him all sorts of crazy. "Crazy" was definitely the right word, he knew, because sometimes he liked to continue doing whatever it was that has brought the pout about, just so it would stay a little while longer. It was definitely her fault for being so damned cute, Derek protested! He was only so much of a good mother's boy—and he fully acknowledged that he was the sort who liked to tug on plaits and do ridiculous and embarrassing things to catch the attention of the girl he liked.

He really liked Giada.

Pulling her closer by her hand so that he could slip his free one around her waist, he looked at her with what he liked to think were his soulful and persuasive baby blues. "Don't you trust me?" Derek's voice was teasingly hurt as his brows drew together. "I would think, by the end of this month, you'd know I'd never let you get into trouble..."

Oh yes, his grin was rakish. Derek thought he could sense her uneasiness, that the big one-month late night celebrations (in his dormitory…) might be leading to something a bit more. Of course, he would never—could not ever, and certainly not in the first month, and would, at some point, relieve his lovely if devilishly flirtatious girlfriend of her worries—but it was still the most evil bit of fun watching her squirm just a little. Crazy, he did say!

"I'll walk you back and protect you from the evil caretaker," he whispered, close to her ear. "Or… you could stay the whole night. I'll be the perfect gentleman. Won't even lay a finger on you unless you ask me to."

Giada knew immediately that she would be following Derek into the Hufflepuff common room, but she twisted and protested just a bit more to make him try a little harder. Her heart was shrieking at her to snog him up against the wall right now, but her mind knew that giving in during the very first minute of protest was just going to ruin all the fun---and all her self-control. A girl needed a lot of self-control when it came to being around Derek Dobbs, and Giada was finding herself fighting a losing battle.

A wonderfully lost battle, and it was going downhill rather quickly.

She let his lips dance around her ear for a few more seconds, enjoying the feeling and not wanting him to stop just because she accepted his offer. Giada's free hand had wrapped around his side and pressed hard against Derek's back, wanting to press him closer and---she flushed, trying to keep some sort of composure because if she let her mind wander the wishes that she'd concocted would soon be found to be easily attained and then...what was really the matter with giving in to her desires, though?

Oh, hell. She needed to say something, didn't she? Giada, lost in her thoughts of Derek pulled her chin back and smirked, her cheeks a bright red and feeling hot all over, "Just get me into the common room first."

She kissed him quickly, though, her nervousness now growing into excitement at the prospect of staying the night without the looming pressure of sex. Giada trusted that Derek wouldn't force her into anything she didn't want to do, even if that didn't seem like much at the moment.

There was no concealing that ear-to-ear grin. Derek didn't even bother trying. Instead, he kissed her quite soundly and let out as loud a laugh as he dared whilst he dragged her off to the portrait. Oh, this girl and the things she did to him.

Once they reached the still-life painting, he let go of Giada and stepped forward, clearing his throat. "Derek Dobbs, seventh year Hufflepuff," he said very importantly, his chest puffing out just a bit. "Oh, and I've got a girl."

Dead silence. Derek could feel the still-life casting judgment upon him. He hastened to backtrack.

"Er, I mean, I've got my girlfriend! Here. With me. It's—our one month anniversary." He glanced nervously at Giada for just a moment, having the first glimmer of uncertainty that it might not be quite as easy to sneak her in as he'd thought, no matter how much it had been discussed before.

The painting still did not open for admittance.

"And—erm, since it is our anniversary, I hoped I could show her the common rooms. And the surprise, that's inside."

More silence, but Derek thought it was much more considering than it had been just moments before.

"I did clear it with Vinny, you know," he hissed in a meaningful tone. "And she's a Ravenclaw."

To his immense relief, it swung aside to reveal the common room's entrance. Taking firm hold of her hand again, Derek made his way into the room and slanted her a cheeky grin from the side as he grandly stepped forward and presented the empty room to her. "See?" he said, not a little smug. "Promised I'd get you in, didn't I?"

Even if it had been touch and go, for a moment.

But then he turned on her with a predatory gleam in his eye and a mocking but still very wicked smirk as he advanced a step towards her. "Now the ravishing can begin."

She would have liked to take a look around the common room, as she'd never been in another House's dorm before and was a curious Ravenclaw, but Derek literally launched himself upon her and before she knew it they were kissing, arms wrapped around each other as they tried to walk---waddle, wobble, whatever it was, toward a wall or---a couch, a couch would be a much better place to do this than standing and tangled around each other.

Giada let out a yelp as they tumbled back into the...ridiculously soft and cozy couch! She could get used to this! They bounced, Derek landing quite comfortably on top of her, and Giada pushed back into the couch and laughed, feeling so glad and happy that she'd agreed, or had been persuaded to come to the dorms with him. It was all really innocent, if she thought about it. They could just snog more aggressively than they could have in the corridor, or behind tapestries, or in the courtyard, or---they really did snog a lot, didn't they?

With another grin Giada pushed herself up to kiss Derek again, slowly and deeply as her foot grazed the floor. She really, really, really was glad to be here with him. Giada kissed his chin, her lips moving along his jawline as she recalled his conversation with the portrait, "What's this about a surprise?"

At the mention of "surprise," Derek's ears turned a bit pink at the tips and he pushed himself off her a bit. It wasn't that he was embarrassed, necessarily, it was more that… well, he'd put a lot of effort into it. Too much effort into it, really, but if he was being honest with himself, he'd started it a lot earlier than one month ago, and didn't really know on what occasion he'd be able to give it to her. This worked out conveniently, but he was…well, embarrassed was turning out to be quite a good word.

He lifted a hand to rub behind his ear absently as he stared quite interestedly at the floor. "Oh, it's—er—it's not really anything, I just…"

Well, first he'd found it in the attic. Then he'd gotten the idea. Then, with a lot of tinkering, a few explosions, a bad moment with Paul McCartney's face, and more hours of studying than he'd like done for his NEWTs, Derek had gotten the results he'd wanted. Mostly.

Summoning the box, he picked it up from the table while still emphatically refraining from making eye-contact with her. He, Derek Dobbs, had handmade a present. For a girl. Like a sap. Merlin's beard, was that embarrassing, or what!

"I just looked up a few spells, is all," he said off-handedly, handing (sort of shoving) the neatly-wrapped box to her. "They dance, too. Well, mostly they bicker, but sometimes they do both."
