Ben, Corliss

Corliss' father had always told him that Hunters could pick shifters out of a crowd. It was an inherent sense honed into a sharp skill. Unfortunately, even with all of the boy's training, Corliss had never been very good at it. Sometimes his father would just look at him and shake his head, and Corliss could hardly stand the disappointment so evident on the man's face. Because of this, he spent a lot of time on his own, trying to improve his skills.

This afternoon was one such time, and after work, he was sitting at a Starbucks in the middle of the Safeway. It was a brilliant invention really, a cafe right there in the middle of a grocery store. It was the perfect place for people watching, and even better for shifter watching because even werecreatures needed to eat. He sat with both hands wrapped around his hot chocolate, letting his eyes drift from person to person, trying to look for the small things his father had told him about. Sometimes he would close his eyes too, trying to listen to the signals his body may be sending him, tingling skin, a quickening heart, anything that might indicate a shifter was nearby. Nothing came and he sighed with frustration, leaning dejectedly back in his chair.
