Charlie still felt kind of sore about the Draco ordeal. He'd actually really liked him. And then he'd been left for an abusive ex boyfriend. Someone who had cheated on Draco with his own father and for some reason, that was okay. The other boy could just over look it. How was that an okay thing to go back to?

He ran a hand through his hair and looked up. Draco was there. Draco was in his museum. How was that fair? He frowned to himself and looked back down at his work.

Draco didn't want to have to give up on going to the Natural History Museum just because he and Charlie had broken up. He'd left it for a while, to try and give Charlie some space, but they really hadn't dated for that long, right? And what were the chances he'd run into Charlie again anyway? Charlie could go into offices and things. Draco would be in the public areas and his hair stuck out like a sore thumb anyway.

He was wandering through the dinosaur exhibit when he spotted Charlie. Draco froze for a moment, trying to decide what the best course of action was now, and then gave in and moved closer to him. At the very least, he could apologise, right? And... maybe they could be friends. Draco had really liked talking to Charlie. "Hey, I -- uh -- I'm sorry."

Why had Draco came up to him? It wasn't fair. He closed his eyes and turned to look at the other boy for a moment. He was apologizing. He wouldn't have to apologize if he hadn't made a stupid decision.

"For what?" Charlie asked, turning back to look down at the papers he had in his hand, detailing the fossil eggs they were getting in just a few days.

"Just, that... This is your space," Draco said, gesturing around the museum. "And I'm kind of... I mean, I'm here." He shrugged. "I didn't think I'd run into you so quickly. I just wanted to come see the dinosaur section again."

He wanted to be friends with Charlie too, but Charlie didn't look like someone who wanted to be friends right now. He wasn't even looking at Draco. "I should go. I'm sorry."

"No. It's fine. This is my workplace, but it's where you like to be too." Charlie told him with a careless shrug. But, he did care. He just didn't think it would be right to take Draco's happy place away from him either.

He bit at his bottom lip. "We're getting the eggs." He told him, holding out the papers.

Draco relaxed a little when Charlie said it was okay. That was good. Draco didn't want to be chased away from the dinosaurs. He smiled, taking the papers from Charlie so he could see the photos of the eggs again.

"That's amazing," he said, looking the papers over. "You're so lucky you get to work with this stuff. When do they get here? I'm glad you got the funding. I kept dropping hints to my mother about making a donation, but I don't think she has yet."

"They're on loan for now. We can't get them in full yet." Charlie told him, shaking his head, then sighed. "They'll be here in a week. I'm just trying to decide where to put them when they do get here."

Charlie looked around the museum. "I... How are you?" He asked, looking away.

Right, so obviously things weren't completely okay between them yet, but that probably made sense, right? Draco chewed on his bottom lip for a moment, shrugging. "I'm okay," he said. "I've been working hard on my schoolwork, mostly." He wasn't going to mention Merlin or the fact that he'd moved in with him.

"How are you?" he asked, looking up at Charlie. "You must be happy that the eggs are coming here."

"I.. Yeah. I'm alright." Charlie nodded as he looked at Draco. He was so pretty, wasn't he? It wasn't really fair that Draco had gone back to his cheating boyfriend. He ran a hand through his hair, then glanced at his watch.

"It's actually my lunch time." Charlie admitted. "I should probably do that."

"Oh, right." Draco shouldn't be forcing Charlie into an endless conversation about things he didn't care about when he probably really just felt uncomfortable with the way Draco had treated him before. "I should let you go."

He gave Charlie a weak sort of smile. "It was nice seeing you. I've missed you."

Charlie didn't want to hear that. That Draco had missed him. If he'd missed him so much and care that much about him, why did he leave? He ran a hand over his hair and cleared his throat.

He was giving into himself. "You could come have lunch with me, if you want. I'll buy."

Draco hesitated for a moment, trying to determine if the invitation was genuine or not, but... He did want to have lunch with Charlie. They'd be friends. They'd talk about dinosaurs and things. Maybe Draco could convince Merlin to get to know Charlie too.

"Yeah," he said. "I'd like that. You should let me buy. You're the only reason I know how to make a half-decent meal."

Charlie looked back at Draco and shook his head. "No. I'll buy. I already offered." He told him, then held onto the papers as he led Draco out of the dinosaur section and out the front doors.

He walked over to his car and opened the door for Draco. "Where do you want to eat?"

Draco had no idea. He'd kind of been thinking about the museum cafe, but of course Charlie was probably sick of eating there. He got into the car. "I know an Italian place that isn't too far from here," he said, after a moment. "They make their own pasta fresh."

He looked over at Charlie when he got into the car. "The Golden Boot. My friend Thoreau really likes it and he's a foodie."

"Okay. Yeah. we'll go there." Charlie nodded as he turned on the car, then reached over to turn down his too-loud music. He glanced at Draco as he started to drive, quiet for a moment.

"You... Are you happy?" Charlie asked as he glanced at Draco. "With him?"

Draco looked up at Charlie. That was kind of a complicated question. Or... the question wasn't complicated, really, but it was hard to think of what the right thing to say was. "It's nice to have him to talk to again," he said. "We were friends for so long."

He ran a hand through his hair. "I think he's trying a lot harder this time. I'm trying harder too. So that's good. We're both working on making it work. He hasn't -- My father left to chase his ex to try and get him back and I kind of... I blame my father now. Merlin was scared, you know? My father took advantage of him. And just... yeah. I think I am."

Charlie looked out at the road as he drove, which was a good excuse. That way he didn't have to look at Draco too much. He chewed at his bottom lip for a moment, then took a deep breath and nodded.

"Okay. That's good." He told him. "As long as you're happy, that's all that really matters in the end." He glanced at him. "Just... Don't forget too easily, okay? I know that it's really easy to forgive someone when you love them for so long."

Draco looked at Charlie for a long moment, then nodded and glancing out the window at the road. "Yeah," he said. "Merlin makes it really easy to forget everything. But I hurt him too. And he's being better now. He doesn't go around making me feel like he thinks he's better than me all the time."

He looked down at his hands. "I won't forgive him completely just yet. He should have to work for it. I know that."

Charlie nodded and looked Draco over carefully, then parked the car in front of the restaurant. He got out and walked over to the sidewalk, waiting for Draco to follow.

"You can order for me." Charlie told him, looking up at the place. "I don't eat at these sorts of places. I usually cook for myself."

Draco looked up at Charlie, walking into the restaurant with him. "What kind of pasta do you like best?" he asked. "Pasta with a tomato sauce, or a cream sauce?"

He took a seat, feeling kind of like he needed to order himself a drink, even if it was the middle of the day. He and Charlie hadn't even gone out to eat when they were dating.

Charlie had wanted to take Draco out to dinner, but they hadn't really dated long enough to do that. He chewed at his bottom lip as he took a seat.

"I like cream sauce, by the way." Charlie admitted. He wanted a drink too. "Tomato sauce gives me heartburn."

Draco looked up at Charlie and smiled a bit. "I'll order you something with a cream sauce then," he said. "If you can drink during your lunch, you should try one of the Italian white wines. They're really good."

He looked up when the waiter came. Ordering fettuccine alfredo for Charlie and penne in vodka sauce for himself. Draco glanced at Charlie, then ordered them both a glass of wine. Just to take the edge off. "So how have you been?" he asked.

"Yeah. I can have a drink." Charlie nodded as he took a look around the restaurant. He kind of just wanted to kiss Draco. Kiss him and remind him of how good they'd been together, but he couldn't do that. Draco would hate him.

"I've been-" Charlie thought about it. "I'm fine, I suppose. My friend Nymphadora asked if I'd lend her my sperm for a child."

Draco looked up at Charlie, surprised. "You're having a baby?" That was... big. "I mean... I guess you haven't actually told me if you said yes or not. Are you lending her your stuff to make a baby?"

He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm supposed to have a child. I'm supposed to be an heir and have these responsibilities to my family, but I don't know how I feel about all that stuff now that my father's... done the things he's done. It might be nice though. Having a little me."

Charlie shrugged. "I don't know. She's going to name him Edward, which is her father's name and my middle name." He admitted. "She wants to call him Teddy. Cute enough."

He ran a hand over his hair. "Well. I'm sure your friend Pansy would be willing to have a child for you. She loves you a lot, you know. She came to the museum a few days ago."

"Edward is a good name," Draco said, smiling at Charlie a bit. "You'd be a good father, if she wanted you to be part of his life. You're a really caring person, you know?"

He frowned a bit. "Pansy came to the museum?" Without him? Draco was a bit worried about that. "Did you two talk?" They must have. How else would Charlie know Pansy was there?

"I'd just be Charlie to him. I'd be in his life. Probably his godfather or something." Charlie admitted as he looked back at Draco. "And she's a lesbian. So, I wouldn't have to worry about an arse of a father for him."

Charlie thought about Pansy and nodded. "Yeah. We had a chat. She told me she was concerned about you and wished that I hadn't lost to Merlin. That I was good for you."

God, Pansy. Why did she have to make things more complicated than they already are? "Merlin and Pansy kind of hate each other," Draco said. "If Merlin cheats on me again or anything, I wouldn't stick around. I have enough self-esteem to walk away."

He ran a hand through his hair. "You were good for me though. I'm really sorry things ended the way they did. I liked us being together."

Charlie shrugged at that and looked down at the table cloth. "It's fine. You weren't happy enough with me or you would have stayed around. That's how that works, yeah?"

He chewed at his bottom lip. "I think I won't date for a while. Never turns out very well for me."

"No, it -- I was happy," Draco said, shaking his head. "I was really happy with you, Charlie. We were really good together. I just hated the way Merlin was around me. He kept crying and saying he was sorry."

He reached for his glass of wine when it was delivered, taking a big gulp from the glass. "You deserve to find someone and be happy with them, Charlie."

"I don't really want to hear about how happy you were when you were with me." Charlie admitted, looking at Draco. "Anyone who is dumped by someone doesn't want to hear how great they were. They want to hear why they weren't great enough."

He shrugged and sighed, taking a sip of his wine. "What I deserve and what I get are two very separate things, Draco."

Draco felt terrible. He shouldn't have agreed to come to lunch thinking everything was going to be fine and he'd be able to be friends with Charlie. Of course they weren't able to be friends. That wasn't how life worked.

"The only thing you did wrong was choose me," Draco told him. He drained the rest of his wine glass. "Someone who decided it was a good idea to go back to the ex-boyfriend who fucked around with his father."

Charlie shook his head. "It's not like you're a bad person for choosing to be with someone you love, Draco. That's not what I was trying to say. I'm glad that you're happy with him. You deserve to be happy."

He reached across the table and touched his hand. "I really liked you. I'm still bitter about it. That's all. I'm sorry that I made you feel bad."

Draco looked back up at Charlie when he touched his hand, feeling... maybe a bit better about everything. "It's okay," he said. "You've got a right to make me feel bad. You've got a right to feel bitter. I moved in with you and then moved out on you so quickly."

He ran a hand through his hair. "In the long run, I might like you making me feel bad. It'll make me feel like I paid for treating you poorly."

Charlie laughed a bit. "No, Draco. I don't do that. I don't like making people feel bad, no matter how bad they made me feel. It's not a big deal, okay?"

He looked up at him. "You didn't like me as much as you like Merlin. I can learn to deal with that."

Draco wished Charlie made people feel bad. It would make this whole ordeal a lot easier. But he nodded in agreement. "Okay," he said. "You don't make people feel bad. I'll try not to feel too ashamed of myself."

He looked up at the waited when their food arrived, picking up his fork so he could hide his shame in the pasta. "I am sorry though. That I hurt you. Do you think eventually we could be friends?"

Charlie looked back at Draco for a moment. Friends. Draco wanted to be friends. He wasn't sure how long it would be until he was comfortable with that.

Time. Draco nodded, prodding his noodles with a fork. "I can do time," he promised. "I can give you all the time you need."

He looked up at Charlie and smiled a little. "After lunch, I can start on giving you the time you need. Sorry I'm imposing right now."
