To Vance
After Emmerson had arrived and they were sure Basil was safely in his car, Pirate ushered Vance into the backseat so he could hold onto him. As Louisa drove, Pirate muttered quietly how Vance was never leaving the house again. He could be homeschooled, right? It didn't matter anyway because Pirate would always take care of him. "You really don't need school at all right? If Louisa doesn't let me kill that kid, then I can't let you go back." He was squeezing Vance a little too tight and it would take the jaws of life to get him free.
Louisa kept glancing in the rearview mirror as she drove. Vance was a very strong boy, but at his age, he shouldn have to be.
