To: Noah, Haben
Majid was having a difficult time moving on from Coldwater. He sensed strongly that Haben was close, but Noah wasn't giving anything away. He felt certain that the young prince was not with the wolves in the area. He could not imagine a different species (especially wolves) being so welcoming to lions. His expertise was in Pride law, not Pack functions. A werewolf in Africa would be swiftly dealt with and he would do the dealing.

He might also have a difficult time moving on because of the connection he felt with Noah. It was hard for him to be away from his own kind and he'd spent so much of his life protecting Noah and Haben that it was difficult to leave him. Out by the pool, lying in the sun, he felt a keen amount of guilt for lazing, but he was a cat, after all, and the hotel pool was empty. He'd had to take advantage of that patch of warmth before it went away.

led away from haben]

Noah wasn't sure what to do about Majid. The other lion had denied him and then tossed him out of his hotel when he saw him last. Still, Noah knew that he was still around. He'd done a great job of keeping Haben from town and really, Haben didn't mind being kept from town so it worked out in Noah's favor. He was up to a dozen wolves by now to keep him busy. All right, so that wasn't exactly true, but sometimes it felt that way to Noah.

While Noah had spent his energy trying to stay away from Majid, today was the day he was going to see him again. Why Majid was still in town was a mystery and the longer that he was, the closer he got to Haben. It was no surprise for Noah to find the other lion by the pool, and he folded his arms across his chest as he looked down at him.

"So, what? You're on vacation now?"

Oh! Nice. That will make Majid so mad if he ever finds out :D

The voice instantly made him feel guilty and he snapped his eyes open. "I do not work all of the time." That was a lie, Majid was always working, but right now he was so at a loss for what to do that the sun had seemed the only option to him.

He sat up, then got to his feet, acting as if Noah had ruined his calm entirely and now the whole afternoon was shot. "Have you come to tell me that Haben is safely out of town? Because I can still feel him here. He is not dead. You are lying to me." He pointed his finger at him accusingly, able to take his frustration out on the other easily.

"Well I haven't been able to find him or feel him," Noah snapped back unhappily as he tightened his arms across his chest and stared over at Majid. "I don't know where he is. I think he sensed you were here and took off and I don't blame him," he aded as he jutted his chin upwards defiantly.

He knew that getting Majid to leave was going to be difficult, and now he was trying to think of ways to lead him away from Haben. Dangerous ways but they were the only thing that would work and Noah was very aware of that.

He gave Noah a hard cold look, trying to hide the heat he felt whenever the young man was around. He kept just trying to picture him as an impish youth rather than an elegant grown man. His eyes softened just slightly as his gaze lingered too long.

"I was your guard for a long while, little Noah. I know when you are telling the truth and when you are not. I am beginning to think that I need to use more aggressive measures. Do you not remember that I know 103 ways to torture a man without leaving a mark?" He stalked closer.

Noah had seen that hard cold look many times before, but they always had been directed at other people and not at himself. Still, he didn't shrink back from it and he only narrowed his eyes in return, and when Majid threatened him he only tipped his head up so that he could meet his eyes.

"You really think you'd be able to torture me after protecting me all those years?" he asked as he arched a brow. "I think it'd break your heart."

"You have already broken my heart. I am not your enemy, Noah. He does not belong here." Majid liked that Noah wasn't cowing to him, though he wished he was cooperating with him. After a quick check of his senses for onlookers and finding none, he stepped forward and took Noah's upper arm like a naughty child. "Come. We'll go upstairs and see if I can or cannot torture you for answers. How about that?"

A part of Noah wanted to scream at Majid. He didn't understand why Haben didn't want to go back, and even if he knew the truth what would it matter to someone who was so bound by rules? Majid wouldn't care. He wouldn't hesitate to force Haben to leave, and Haben would only end up miserable. Noah would do anything to save his best friend from that.

Many different thoughts were running through Noah's mind when Majid took his arm roughly. Noah just tipped his head up even more and pushed himself in even closer to the other lion as he stared up at him.

"Fine," he said quietly.

"You have too much pride." He drug him upstairs to his room and tossed him down roughly on the bed. When he saw Noah there it was hard to look away, but he did. He wished that his feelings weren't complicating things. "I should beat it out of you. It would not be remiss. Your father would thank me for it."

He paced back and forth, looking caged by his own inability to lay a hand on Noah for fear it would turn into something else.

Noah let Majid drag him. He didn't try and fight him off and once he was in the room and on the bed, he pushed himself up onto his elbows and watched the older lion with a frown.

"You think I have too much pride? You'd rather I beg and plead with you, is that it?" he asked snidely. "My father doesn't even care that I'm gone. You were sent to find Haben, not me."

"Your father wanted you back too." Majid wasn't lying perse, but it really had been more about Haben. The fact that Noah had gone looking for him had urged the man to believe that Haben might still be alive. "But I wanted to look for you. I cared that you were gone. I do not understand not wanting to be around your own kind."

He continued to pace, but realized it was building up more energy and not helping. "It reeks of dog here." He didn't like wolves much.

Noah wasn't exactly fond of wolves either to begin with, but he'd started to come around after speaking with Haben and being on pack lands. He was silent as he sat up and let his legs slide over the edge of the bed.

"It's not about that. I just want to see the world. Why should we be stuck in one place?"

Majid wanted to say because he was in that one place, but it just wasn't the right thing to say. He didn't even know what had compelled him to say it outside of perhaps jealousy and hurt that they would take off like that without him. He'd never really considered himself a part of their lives, but when they were gone he realized that he missed them and needed them both to keep himself with purpose. Noah especially had been an absence for him and maybe that was because he'd lost Haben first and had grown to depend on Noah more.

"So you are saying that once you see the world, the both of you will come back?" Majid was doubtful of this and it showed on his face as he finally settled in one place.

"No," Noah said with a soft sigh as he shook his head a little bit. "Maybe I would, but not Haben. He'll never go back. I've tried to talk to him about it. He won't. It's too painful for him there for reasosn that you don't understand and I can't tell you because they're not my secrets to tell," he explained with a frown. "I'm sorry. You came all this way for nothing. If you take Haben back there, he'll just run again. Or he'll hurt himself. Trust me when I say that."

Shaking his head, he let out a sound of disgust. "You would have me go back empty handed. Leave the both of you alone. So much gratitude for the life you've been given. Typical youth. You waste what you have. There is nothing so great about this world you want to explore, yet you will not be convinced unless you find out yourself." He was so angry, but he kept it under a deadly cool facade and he finally sat down on the bed, growing still, trying to figure out what to do.

"Is that all we are to you? Just some sort of prize? I know there's a bounty on our heads," Noah said as he got up and folded his arms across his chest tightly. "Why aren't we allowed to live our own lives the way we see fit? Why do we have to be trapped and held down by people we don't want to be around?"

Majid shoved him back on the bed hard, slamming the heel of his palm into his chest. "How dare you suggest that I came here for money. After years and years of service to the king and to you both? How dare you." He'd never been so offended in his life, which was saying something because it was rather easy to offend Majid. He had such a strict code of moral behavior, of what he thought was honor.

He scoffed and stood up again, going back to pacing because he had to keep moving, like a shark, or he'd sink into what--he didn't know.

The shove surprised Noah, and he stared up at Majid wide eyed before he glared. He got to his feet and went to the door so that he could tug it open. He was leaving. There was absolutely no reasoning with someone as rigid and strict as Majid. He just ddin't understand and he never would understand.

"Walking out? Not even an apology?" He shook his head, utterly disgusted. He was going to let him go until he thought about being alone in this goddamn hotel again. Darting quickly to the door, he pressed his hand against it firmly. "You're not going anywhere. If I cannot bring back Haben, I will at least bring you back to your father." It was just a threat, Majid had no intentions of leaving here without at least doing one more look about for Haben.

"What should I apologize for?" Noah yelled as he whirled around and gave Majid a hard shove with his chest. "Huh? For wanting to live my own life and not wanting to be treated like some coveted possession or a prisoner? Fuck you," he shouted, his voice growing louder as he shoved Majid again. "Fuck you and fuck my father and fuck the Pride and fuck the King and everyone else!"

The reaction was as thrilling as it was infuriating and he brought his hand sharply down across Noah's cheek, slapping him for saying those things. Before Noah had a chance to react, he grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up, turning around to toss him down on the bed, someplace soft at least but the force of it was mighty.

"You're a child! It is not your life to live yet." Relatively, Noah and Haben were both very young. "Apologize for causing me a headache." And for confusing him utterly. He did not like questioning his orders, but Noah's vehemence was starting to wear him down.

A part of Noah did miss Africa, and home. A part of him even missed his father. But the Pride had fallen apart, smaller little prides had formed here and there and the King wasn't really a King any longer. Bringing Haben back, Noah knew, Majid thought would fix that. Renew hope and bring the entire Pride back together. Noah had thought the same thing, really, but now he knew that it wouldn't be so easy. Haben wanted no part of it, just as Noah wanted no part of going back to be forced to mate to Jato for the rest of his life. The older lion was not who Noah wanted.

"I'm not a child," Noah said fiercely. "And don't act so noble when really, it was Jato who sent you after me. Not my father. So you are getting paid, one way or another, aren't?" he added as he stood back up. "You were just lucky to figure out that Haben was around here somewhere. But now he's gone so just leave."

Noah was thankful that Haben was off with Sullivan, Robin, and Austin. He missed the other lion terribly, but at least he wasn't there so that Majid could find him.
