Valini sighed and rubbed her temples once more as she stood at the Wall, pictures, notes and sub-report about the new staring back at her. They were waiting for her to find the lynchpin that would identify whoever was behind this string of attacks and all she was doing was making circles. She wanted more information to paint a clearer picture, but that would mean waiting for another attack. "I'd almost take a crime wave done with riddles right about now," she sighed and admitted to the Wall.

"They say talking to yourself is a sign of insanity," Tim teased as he stuck his head in the room from the hallway. "How about I treat you to a cup of coffee in the mess?" The coffee was free, but it wasn't the cost that matter but the intent on getting her to take a break.

"Then half of this base would be in serious trouble, Tim." She looked over her shoulder and smiled at the newcomer. Looks like it was poke-and-check-if-the-workaholics-were-still-alive time and she hadn't clocked in yet. "That depends if it's the kind of brew that floats bullets or not," she chuckled and turned off the Wall. "Lead on, a walk sounds good right now. How's your latest project coming?"

"It's get up and crawl away on your own brew," he said. SHIELD agents got some of the best coffee, but it was usually brewed on the strong side for good reason.

"Almost done," he answered. "Then it's out of the Batcave for some R and R. You remember what that is, right?"

Strong, but tasted good at least. "Perfect, who needs stomach lining?"

She scrunched up her nose at the teasing. "Yes thank you; it's sitting on a beach, fruity drink in one hand and peer reviewing shrink journals. Thinking up ways to say 'your theory is pants-on-head stupid' but in a doctorate way."

"Just checking. If you forget what it is then it's well past time you had some." Not that he was ever that bad. His love of outdoors got him to take time off on a regular basis.

"How have things been in the world of mind games?"

She had to laugh at that. "All this wisdom and yet you work with hardware instead of wetware, Tim." Probably because throwing patients at walls was frowned upon. Glitchy tech, not so much. "Already picked out your camping site and everything, haven't you?"

"You know shrinks, all problems can be related to bedwetting or thumb sucking." She smirked and shook her head. "Routine appointments right now. Now I've said it, I'll jinx it all."

"Obi-Wan and Yoda taught me well," he joked. "You know it. My vacation starts in two days and there's a cliff just calling my name to climb it."

"We do have a deadline coming up. A few of my co-workers are just one lab accident away from becoming super-villains." Those were the ones who never took time off which is exactly why Tim made it a point to.

She nodded along in approval, liking most of his plan. "Perfect for disconnection and re-centering. Except for the vertigo-inducing part."

"I'll listen for the maniacal cackles and know that's it time to run. And knowing the toys your cadre plays with, I'll run very fast."

"That's what makes it exciting. You should try it sometime. I know this great indoor place in New York."

Tim grinned. "You learn quickly, Pada-wan."

She squinted at him skeptically. "And the point of making the outdoors indoor...? Never mind, winter, I remember." Shaking her head, she sighed. "I can hear the jokes about a high strung shrink already, but there's no reason not to try things."

"With such a wise Master, it is easy," she added with a flourished bow.

He smiled. "As soon as I get back I'll reserve some time for us and you're going with me."

He laughed a little and returned the bow. Women were a challenge with him and he was usually nervous around them, but she was one of the very few who put him at ease. Probably because she did the psych evals every year and he knew her.

"I'll need something stiffer than coffee for that one, Tim." But she wasn't particularly worried, he was the type to what to know every detail possible before doing something.

It was that shrink thing she did so well, easy to trust and open up to. But Tim also knew her long enough to not need shrink-fu to relax. She inhaled and sighed, catching a whiff. "You don't realize how bad you're craving coffee until you smell it."

"We can get you liquored up /after/," he said with a grin. "I have a batch of lager just made. Perfect for the occasion."

"My hands shaking usually tell me that there's too much blood in my caffeine stream." He was mostly joking.

She balked in jest, eyes wide. "What? Do something logical and sensible? Bah, where's the fun in that?"

"Can't have that, you'd lose the ability to see through time and quantum mechanics! Then where would our troops find their new toys?"

"Ain't safe to go before hand," he said. "But after you can get as drunk as you like."

"Exactly. Though I'm sure they'd find someone else to make their toys for them."

And the more drunk she got, the less chance she'd give scrambling up a wall. "Whatever you command, Master Dugan."

She gave him a pained looked. "Remember the last batch of trainees they let loose in the R&D department? Didn't one slag a hole in the floor?"

Tim just grinned at that. "I think so. It was hard to tell with all that was going on. Though in their defense, we generally destroy parts of the R & D department on a daily basis. Which always makes me wonder why we're on the 'Carrier and not on the ground in some secure facility."

"On the off chance you make a black-hole gun with a mind of it's own, it's easier to crash a carrier than part of a major city, I'd suppose." She patted his arm, reassuringly. "I have faith in you." To make the gun or not let it get out of hand, she didn't really clarify.

Tim grinned. "Thanks. I'll remember you said that when you're stuck halfway up a wall and won't move."

Tim laughed. "I better get back to the lab before I get the both of us in trouble. Two weeks. Rock climbing. You're going even if I have to toss you over a shoulder and carry you there."

Laughing, she nodded her acquiescence. "Two weeks. Rock climbing and then sampling many lagers. I'll be ready." Waving him off at the coffee station, she smiled. "Try not to blow us up this week!"

"I won't! Can't say the same for my co-workers."

With that he headed back to the lab.
