Released on the eve of an impending lockout, the profile was widely derided as a journalistic sponge bath of the commissioner as he and his billionaire employers prepared for a labor war with the players who worked for them. The magazine’s cover showed the commissioner striding purposefully across a field with a veritable halo of light behind him, its headline blaring, “ROGER GOODELL’S MOMENT.”
